Since I've seen this question asked daily and I happen to be doing the research myself, I thought I'd throw this out there. I've listed the Baby Bargains recommendations with the Consumer Reports safety score in parentheses. Below that is the Consumer Reports recommendations.
Baby Bargains recommends:
Good: Cosco Scenera (scores 64) or Evenflo Titan Elite (scores 48)
Better: Sunshine Kids Radian 65 (scores 42 - this is the worst safety rating) or First Years True Fit (scores 61)
Best: Britax Marathon (scores 67)
If Grandma is Buying: Britax Boulevard 70 CS (scores 69) or Recaro ProRIDE (scores 58)
Since I have the Consumer Reports website open in front of me....
Safest: Britax Boulevard CS 70, Britax Boulevard 70, Evenflo Momentum 65 Deluxe and Britax Advocate 70 CS (all score 69)
Consumer Reports Best Buys: Evenflo Momentum 65 Deluxe (scores 69) or Graco My Ride 65 (scores 61)
Re: Convertible carseat recommendations and safety ratings HERE
Awesome! We went with the recaro proride and when we bought it they had a secret sale that doubled points so I got a $20 gift card instead of a $10 and used it on a g-luxe stroller.
This is the proride I got. The only negative I found in the tons of reviews I read was some kids don't like the wing cushions at the head so when I asked them the alternative was the new Euro seat which is the same as the proride but it doesn't have the adjustable headrest so the cushions are smaller. I still when with the proride.

If I'd have read those reviews I would have been the first one to add since when do the kids get to make decisions about where and in what they're sitting in the car? If that was the case, why go with a car seat at all and why not let the kid drive?
WTH is wrong with people? Let's complain about a safety feature that is designed to stabilize the head and neck in a side impact crash... FAIL!!
Sometimes reviews are ridiculous!! I bought 2 Evenflo Symphony 65 e3's and love them! They are so much lighter than other convertibles, the straps are easily adjustable and they fit well rear facing in our small SUV. When I read the customer reviews for these seats one person gave the carseat 1/5 stars because "the brown color is ugly." Last time I checked the color of the carseat is not what would save your child's life in an accident!!
