I was shocked in the post below how many people HATE the name Lucius.
Lucius is a New Testament name. Why is Silas acceptable but Lucius isn't? I honestly was not trying to saddle my child with a "cruel and unusual" name - both DH and I love it, and it's a legitimate name that's properly spelled. Those are usually the criteria on this board.Whine over. I'm just surprised at the hate.
And for what it's worth, I've only had a couple of people ask if he's named after Harry Potter.
Re: Re: Lucius -can't believe the hate!
I think part of the problem were the other names in the post, which for the most part were absolutely ridiculous. It just got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I feel your pain, my DS is Cameron.
Agreed. When lumped in with gems ,like Rage and D'artagnon Dagonet, it just seems bad altogether. Lucius is not cruel and unusual. Maybe the Harry Potter connection makes it seem sinister to some. Not an association I would worry about.
I didn't see the post below that you are referring to but for me it is too close to Lucifer.
That is my opinion on the name...some names I like, some I don't, but in this case that is the reason.

Your baby's a cutie!
It's pretty simple why some people dislike the name: it has a sinister connotation to a lot of people. Closeness to Lucifer, common use as name for villains in books and movies. Not everyone makes these connections, but definitely some.
Fact is, most people re-form opinions about names after they get to know someone with that name. I rarely thought about whether I liked a name or not until I got pregnant. This board is extra-tough on names because we are actively scrutinizing them. Most people don't think about these things as much.
I like Lucius it's just like someone else said. My mind went rigth to Lucifer, but that's me ! Still a great name.
Don't worry we are naming DS Silas and it gets just as much dirty looks and comments; people either hate it or love it!.... But I can't imagine him having another name and he's not even here yet.
Plus Lucius gives him the nickname Baby Lou... adooorrrable

I think I prefer Lucian, just as I prefer Julian to Julius (though I think less people agree with that). I think most of it had to do with just being in the 'wrong place at the wrong time' as someone else said. But no, I wouldn't say Lucius is awful. I was surprised at the hate too. I was surprised at the love Killian got- all I saw was Kill-ian. But, everyone's got a different opinion.
Yep, Lucius = light...one of the things we loved about it.
I like Lucian, too, but our last name ends in "in" so it wouldn't work. And I certainly don't mind the Harry Pitter connection.
Thanks for the compliments on my little guy. I swear I wasn't posting to fish for compliments, LOL.
I like Lucius a lot!

I assume Silas is "acceptable" and Lucius isn't because people like the sound of Silas more, not because they think Lucius is illegitimate*.
I like James, I don't like Titus. They're both New Testament names. What the hell kind of difference is that supposed to make?
BTW, I adore Lucius. It's on our list.
*ETA because I wrote the wrong word.
I lurk on this board sometimes but never really post.
1. I think your baby is soooo adorable that it doesn't matter what his name is.
2. If you like the name, don't worry about the haters. My son's name is Darwin and I get the side eye every once in awhile.
3. I like the name Lucius. It is interesting. Plus, I like the Harry Potter connection - he wasn't the villain he made himself out to be in the end.
Yup, me too.
As one those that HATE the name it has nothing to do with any unmet "criteria". I just can't stand the way it sounds. Too close to luscious maybe, I don't know, can't put my finger on it but I despise it. My BFF loves the name and if she had her way with her ex she would have named her son that... Instead she named her German shepherd Lucius! I still can't stand the name and will only call him Lu.
