Clicky Poll - pronunciation

We really like the name Hana, but prefer it pronounced a certain way so I'm wondering what all of you would say when reading it.

Thanks!

  • Honestly, I would think you didn't know how to spell Hannah because I have never seen Hana before.

This was my first thought as well, that it is a misspelling of Hannah.

  • I would say "Hah-na" but I did go to school with a girl who spelled her name that way and it was pronounced "Han-uh."

I'd say Hahn-a only because I've driven that road in Hawaii...

THIS.  "The road to Hana"   sigh.... such a beautiful place.

  • If you want to avoid the confusion over pronunciation, you could just go with the standard Hannah. If you are having trouble with this, imagine what you LO will have to go through her entire life.

My husband and I did not get to experience the road to Hana, because we were told the drive there was so bad it was nicknamed "the road to Divorce".

Anywho, I have known two people named Hana and they both pronounced it "Hah-na", like the town in Hawaii.  I think it's cute but agree you'd get a lot of people pronouncing it like Hannah.

  • I would say Hah-na, because I'd pronounce Ana as Ah-na and not An-na. So following that rule, Hannah would be Han-nah and Hana would be Hah-na.

  • I would say Hannah and figure you were trying to get annoyingly creative with the spelling.

  • First instict would be to say it like Hannah, but once corrected, it would be easy to see it as Hahn-a since I say Ana like on-a, not anna.

This. I would want to say Hannah but my brain does know that it should be Hah-na.
  • I had a friend named Hana when I was a kid. It was pronounced Hah-na.

  • Hana is the Japanese word for "flower" and is pronounced Hah-na. The road in Hawaii was named Hana due to the high population of Asian- and Japanese-Americans who inhabit the area (Hawaii has the highest population of Asian-Americans than other state in the US, I believe California has the second highest).
