Re: Bailey or Bailee? (GIRL)

  • Make her life easier. I wouldn't think she'd have 5 other Bailey's in her class.

  • Well the only reason I thought about a different spelling is that there are 3 other "Bailey's" in our church nursery!  2 girls 1 a boy

  • So you know personally of three other "Baileys" just in your church and you still want to name her that?

That's my last name, so I don't like it.  It also reminds me of Party of Five, and that show was just super annoying, as was the character.

  • Well our church has over 2,000 members from miles around so it's bound to happen I guess!  It's the only name my husband and I agree on right now and just feels like YES that is her name.  And I think I'm one of the few teens from the 90's who never watched Party of Five LOL  Dawsons creek yes

Seriously, I couldn't stand that show.  I caught it from time to time, and I saw previews and it was always "Bailey is drinking again...wah, wah, wah."  If you'd seen it, I think you'd hate the name...LOL.  In fact when I married, I hated to change my last name Bailey.  Though I thought..."OK, it's just the last name...not the same as a first name."

  • Spelling it with a double e doesn't make it any more unique.  It's still pronounced Bailey, and she's still one of 4 in your church nursery.

If you're going to use it despite its popularity, at least spell it right.  Bailee, quit honestly, looks a little teen mommish.

  • Honestly, Bailee looks TOO girly.  I don't think it would look good on a 40 year old woman, which you daughter will be someday.

  • I like Bailey, but I'm also partial to Baylee, (I see it a lot for Haylee)....not a fan of Bailee at all!  Looks funny to me.
  • Ah. Some people are harsh. She is not asking for your opinion on the name JUST the spelling! Geez. Lol. With that being said, I like the spelling of Bailey or Baylee best. All in all, it's not a bad name and is fine spelled either way IMO.
  • Definitely Bailey. And who cares if there are other Baileys in your church? If that's the name you love, use it! The original spelling is only 78th on the SSA name chart, so don't be fooled - it's not all THAT popular.

  • Definitely Bailey.  I agree with pps that Bailee looks really immature.

  • Spelling it different doesn't help her in school.  What matters is how it sounds, if there are multiple kids named Bailey, no matter how they spell it will all be labeled Bailey M., Bailee R., Baylee B.

And just typing out Bailee makes me dislike it more.  Bailee makes me think of someone who needed bailed out of jail (I know it isn't a word but when you think of employee/employer, mortgagee/mortgagor, interviewee/interviewer just made my mind go there etc.)

It's true. If thats the name she picked then I don't think there is a reason to tell her how bad you think it is. She just wants spelling advice.

She posted it on a public message board, which invites opinions. It's the internet.

I don't like Bailey at all on a human, seems more like a dog name to me. But if you must use it, then spell it correctly. Spelling it Bailee will not set her apart from all the other Baileys and Baylees; it is still the same name when spoken.

My personal opinion. If she is not asking for advice on the actual name then there is no reason to slam it. I didn't quote anyone or direct it towards anyone in the first place. Once again, my opinion. Just like that is your opinion.
  • Even though I stray away from really common names, I think that's even more reason to use Bailey instead of Bailee. If you use Bailee people will always spell her name wrong... plus I think it looks weird.

  • My younger sister is sixteen and she is Bailey... I love it. It fits her personality and I think the traditional spelling is better. My name has a You-neek spelling, so I am glad my mom didn't follow the You-neek pattern when naming my sister.

Sorry, if someone posts "which spelling is better...Neveah or Nevaeh?" I am going to respond that I don't like it.  Bailey isn't on that level, but the concept applies.

  • I hate it either way, but at least spell it Bailey. She's going to be an adult for most of her life, and Bailee just does not look like a woman's name.

  • I like Bailee best for some reason. I actually kind of like Baylie better than Bailee- just because I live near a bay- and I thought it is neater spelled like that.

Hahaha. It's ok, when presented with logic, most people do cut and run!  Take care!
