I know of three little girls (via Facebook) with the name "Peyton Marie" (one of them is a Paitin). What is the appeal of this name?? I think it sounds so masculine.
My thought is that a lot of people like it from One Tree Hill??? Kinda like how Dylan became popular post 90210, and Aiden became popular post S*x and the City???
I think it's like Jordan in the 90's--men love to give their daughters names after sports stars. The Peyton's I know are named after Peyton Manning or Walter Payton.

I think this could have something to do with it. My sister-in-law named my niece Peyton after One Tree Hill. I think it's so ugly for a girl.

I first saw the name spelled "Peighton" and was perfect for the little girl who had the name. But then I saw Payton and Peyton and Peitin and I just can't stand it anymore... it's just not sweet - too harsh.

It's a truly terrible name. Plus, I live in Knoxville, and with the obsession over Peyton Manning here, the name is everywhere. It literally makes my skin crawl when I hear it.

This exactly.
The first time I heard it was on a woman in the movie "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle", but now it's all about Peyton Manning, and I'm over it.
I really like it. I like unisex names. I prefer the spelling Payton though. Peyton seems more boyish to me. I don't think it has anything to do with peyton manning or one tree hill.
I know a couple of Peyton's too via FB. I don't hate it but I don't like it either. I tend to like classic feminine names. The other name trend that is driving me crazy out here is Jaxon. Its everywhere. Now I can get behind Jackson but Jaxon? I don't get it.

This... I live in the Indy area and the name is super popular here, with babies and pets.

I've never seen the spelling "Peighton" .. I kind of like this. If I have a girl this is what I want to name her. Not because of any reason or after anything. I just like it. I'm not into sports and I live in Canada... I don't hear the name very often.

I love this name for a boy. I guess my boy name style tends to be unisex surnames (DS is Cameron).
My husband wouldn't even consider Peyton because of Peyton Manning (we are Patriots fans).
