I went to my friend's first dress fitting on the weekend. She had some alterations to the design and the company didn't really do what she wanted. She isn't in love with it. She feels disappointed. She is someone who has dreamed about her dress all her life.
Clearly she can't get a refund. And there is no way to alter the top into what she wants aside from taking it to a dressmaker and having the entire bodice removed and replaced. Then what if it isn't right? And she is out all that money and still doesn't have a dress?
The dress she bought looks amazing on her. And it is a gorgeous dress.
Anyone have a similar experience? Any advice?
Re: Anyone not like their wedding dress when it came in?
Well, not exactly, but this is my dress story. I went looking for dresses and had a clear budget of not very much lol. I told each consultant my price limit. At one store I tried on this gorgeous dress and fell in love with it the second I tried it on... I said this was the one and then the sales woman told be the price tag... $1000 over my budget! The b!tch did a bait and switch on me!!!
I loved that dress, I was heart broken, but there was just no way I could spend THAT much more over my budget. So I looked and looked and looked some more. Nope nothing would ever compare. I was set up for disappointment. So I just gave up the search and wore a blah dress that looked great on me.
Close to ten years later, I am over it. It was just one day. The pictures look good. I had a wonderful day and felt like a beautiful bride . In hindsight, I am VERY happy I did not go back and spend the $1000 more on a dress for 7 hours. I do wish it never happened, but realize that there is so much more than that one day.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I'm fighting the urge to call Randy ;-)
Is that Say Yes to the Dress?
I haven't seen the show, but it sure would be nice to have access to someone to change her dress for her.

Yes. I loved it in the store, and my mom loved it, so I went for it. Then at all my fittings, I was kind of blah about it. I didn't dis-like it, and knew it flattered my figure. And it was a gorgeous dress. But I didn't get that feeling of being in love with it.
Even my wedding day, I was just not super impressed with how I looked.
But when I walked in the church and DH saw me, his face lit up. He whispered in my ear that I looked beautiful and at that second I fell in love with it again.
Now, if only I could fit the dang thing over my hips now... : /
This happened to me. I ended up buying a sample dress and was assured (by Kleinfelds, waaaaay before the reality show) that they could clean it up and it would be "good as new". When I got it, it had stains under the armpits and was de-flated (the drycleaning de-flated the crinoline underneath). My seamstress said that the stains wouldn't be a problem, that part of the dress needed to be altered to fit me anyway and I bought another crinoline that I wore underneath. It took me until literally my wedding day to love it again, but as the others said, once I had it on and was ready to walk down the aisle, I felt great.
In fact, my biggest piece of advice to brides ever since has been to have a fitting as few days before the big day as possible and actually mentally allow yourself to have last minute alterations done. I had lost 5 lbs in the final two weeks before teh wedding and when you literally could have put a fist between my back and the back of the dress once it was zipped. I didn't want to deal with alterations again though, so I just took it. In hindsight, I wish that I had had my seamstress fix it, since you can see my bra sticking out in some of the pictures! It was a great day though, no matter what.

I bought a dress I loved for my first engagement, then canceled the wedding and couldn't get my dress or my deposit back. That was mistake number 1. Mistake number 2 was buying a new dress for my second wedding that I hated and everyone else loved on me. Mistake number 3 was eating like a pig for 6 months before the wedding so that I had to lie face down on the bed so my maids could do it up on me on my wedding day.
I think I'm going to renew my vows in a few years just so I can wear the dress I want to wear lol.
poor girl. =( i'm like her, dreamed about my dress my whole life. fortunately i was happy with the product.
what exactly is it that she doesn't like? i guess if i was her i wouldn't give up yet on getting it fixed.
if she can't get it fixed, hope you can help her see how gorgeous she looks in it!
