Saoirse was sitting on the floor next to me and decided to dive forward for a toy. She does this sometimes and usually gets it right where she lands on her belly or stops herself with her hands, but not this time.
She did a full-on face plant onto the floor! I actually felt the "thump" in the floor she hit it so hard. We have an area rug with a mat under it, plus I put down a fleece blanket and another sheet when she plays, but it is still a hard floor.
Her top teeth must have hit her lip just right because she has a cut on the bottom lip and bled a little. I think she would not have been so upset if it wasn't for me freaking out. I am usually a very calm person, even when kids get hurt, but I guess it's different when it is your own kid. I cried more than she did, mostly because I feel like it was my fault.
God, I felt awful. I totally blame myself for not catching her because I was texting DH (we had just had a huge fight about his mother coming to visit and he was apologizing). I thought she was safe because I was right next to her, but I guess it wasn't enough. She actually looks kind of cute with this tough little cut on her lip like she's been in a fight. I still feel terrible though. Oh well, there's a first time for everything I guess.
Re: We have our first official injury here!
Oh no! I'm sorry!
B's first injury happened around 5 months old. Her daddy set her on the toilet seat in her bumbo. That lasted all of about 5 seconds before she reached for her toes and fell off face first onto our bathroom floor. Major DH fail! I was so pissed! She had a little bit of a bloody nose and her nose got a little swollen for a couple of days. But she was fine. She cried for a long time that morning though, and I was super paranoid and took her to the doc. DH felt terrible!
Trust me, this is just the first of many split lips. Wait until she's taking steps.
If that's the worst injury she gets on your watch, I think you're okay.
Hugs to her and to you!
