VBAC

anyone with a success after failure to progress?

Hi ladies! I'm currently pregnant with my 2nd and really, really want a VBAC. My OB isn't very supportive. He said since I failed to progress with my first- never went past 4 cm during my induction, but that was only 11 hours after the cervadil was removed, and 10 hours after my water was broken- that I won't progress this time, either.

So I'm wondering if anyone was labelled as failed to progress with their first and managed a successful VBAC?

  • Bull!  I had an induction and failed to progress past 4cm.  I was given less than 12 hrs before my OB called for my section.  I vbac'd with no stalling whatsoever.  Can you look for a new care provider?  You can do this!  Also, your DS is adorable.

  • I did!

I was induced at 39 1/2 weeks with my daughter and stalled out at 6cm and she was having decels with each contraction.  I was on pitocin from 1AM to about 4:30-5PM and my C-section started around 5:30PM.

With my son, I went into labor spontaneous at 40 weeks and 1 day.  I woke up at 2:30AM and started having timeable contractions pretty much immediately.  I was determined to hold out until at least 6cm before getting an epi with him because that was where I had stalled out with my daughter (I got an epi with her much earlier, because of the pitocin).  I was complete by around 3PM, pushed for 3 hours and he was born at 5:56PM.

  • I had a c/s due to FTP and fetal distress (with contractions only).  I got all the way to 9cm, and was stalled there for 6 hours, then got an epi, then the fetal distress happened and I was pressured into the c/s.

Planning a HBAC sometime in the next few weeks.  I'll post a birth story later this month!

  • ::waves hi from the August board::

I'm calling BS as well.  I never got past 4cm with DD after 22 hours of pitocin (water broke before labor started) that ended in a c/s due to prolonged-ROM.

DS is my VBAC baby.  My birth story is on the VBAC blog and is linked in a post on the next page of this board if you're interested in the labor details.  Every baby is different and positioning of both you and the baby can make all the difference!  And I agree that you should look into a different provider.  GL!

  • So happy to see these posts!  Your doctor said the opposite that mine did -- I never got past 5 cm but she said that every pregnancy/delivery is different and I'm a great VBAC candidate.  Based on the responses, it sounds like you can totally do it!
