My ILs had been talking about drawing names for Christmas but we never heard anything definitive and since I wanted to make presents, we went ahead and started planning to do gifts for everyone.
Well aparently last night they drew (and didn't tell us until today). I just hope I can find someone else to give these gifts to, or maybe sell on etsy. I'm just pissed that I've put so much thought into it. Also, it annoys me that the kids aren't in the draw too. Apparently my BIL & SIL want as many gifts for their kids as possible (per my other SIL). Dumb.
This just in: I can still use the gifts I'm making b/c my DH and I both drew the wives. The gifts I was making for the couples are really for the wives anyway (placemats and napkins), so it worked out well.
Re: F*CK!!
Wow...that's amazing. I want as *few* gifts as possible for my family. I swear, every birthday, Christmas, and other holidays we are overwhelmed with gifts (mostly junk) for the kids. I'd rather they put the monies into the kids' college funds.
I know! I don't want people to go crazy on us either. My MIL and her mother usually give us a TON of gifts. Because of travel and such we had to ask MIL not to do that this year. We said she could get whatever she wants for DD (b/c I don't think we could have stopped her), but that DH and I don't need anything. I most definitely would rather have $ for savings for DD than crappy toys.
I'm glad that it seems to have worked out okay, but I share
your frustration at stupid situations.
Are you going to PIP the placemats and napkins when
you're done? I'd love to see!
Mother's Day, 2011
Our family always draws names- we used to do it just adults drew and then everyone had to buy for every kid in the family. But this year they changed it bc all my cousins and aunt/uncles complained that they would have to buy for too many kids now that I have a kid. I don't want a crap load of crap, but I do feel jipped a bit since I've been spending so much $ on their kids and then they can't do that for me! Guess I'm a bit greedy
Now all adults draw in one group and all the kids draw in another.
