DIva Cup question

I recently bought a Diva Cup and used it for the first time today.  I think I got it in okay but I found that it was really hard to remove.  I felt like it was too big to come out (sorry TMI).  I read all of the instructions and watched a couple of videos.
Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Also, can I sanitize it in my Munchkin steam bags instead of boiling it?

Re: DIva Cup question

  • I don't know anything about that sanitizing method, but regarding removal, there are a few things you can try. Try to relax a little. Clenching those muscles can make it seem impossible to get it out. Really, though, it can't get stuck. Take a few breaths before trying to remove it. Reach up higher to pinch it instead of pinching the base or stem. Try a different position (maybe crouching in the shower. Twist or slightly to the coop when removing it. Even after years of using (and loving) it, I would still say removal can sometimes be uncomfortable and I'm not really sure what determines when this is the case.

  • The easiest removal method for me, is to grasp it with two fingers at the base, and slide one finger up along the cup until I can feel the lip of it, then squeeze in to break the suction.  I can remove it with no problems then.

I'm not sure about that sanitation method either.

    This!

I have no idea about sanitizing it, I always just boil it on the stove.

  • Use your muscles like you are doing kegals to move it down.  Then I grap it at the base and pull it out. HTH

  • I used the Diva Cup for a few cycles but had to stop because the suction caused pretty intense pain for me and I just couldn't deal with it any longer (has anyone else ever heard this?). But your post reminded me of the first time I inserted it. --TMI -- I couldn't get it out at first and eventually resorted to a pair of pliers. Ha! Eventually I figured out the method that the pp mentioned.

  • I used it for 2 cycles and had trouble getting it out both times.  I was 30 minutes from a doctors office visit before it finally came out (17 hours later!) My husband and I both tried and couldn't get it out, it finally just got too full.  So it will come out but I've been too nervous to use it since my flow has become lighter.  I want to try it again but I guess I will have to get a new size after I give birth.  Sorry for the long response, good luck with yours.  I've also looked into the luna cup and a couple others that have a more grip-able bottom, and more sizing options.
