Potty Training

Doesn't know how to release pee on potty

I'm trying to potty train my 27 month old and she doesn't seem to be able to release on the potty.  She's full of liquids, so I know she has to go and nothing.  I feel bad because she sits there and tries and tries, but nothing.  Tips?  Is she not ready ya think??

She finally goes during nap time, but will hold it all morning long and the same thing at night.  Any advice would be appreciative.  Thanks!

  • My oldest son was this way too. He would hold it until nap and bedtime... which is really really good! But to help him go pee. On the potty, his pediatrician recommended running a stream of warm water (using a cup) over his private parts. That was how I got all three of my boys to understand the sensation. I have heard this works with girls too (but I have no personal experience ; )

  • Thanks!  I actually tried putting her hand in warm water, but didn't think to do that.  I'll try it!

  • This is exactly what's going on with Abby. I hear it will just click for them and then it will happen. Abby will sit on that potty forever and not go and then as soon as we put undies on her she pees. Last night she started to tell me she had to go....but she was peeing at the time. Sigh. Sounds like this is the way of Potty Training.

  • Try singing a song to her.  It's worked for us and a number of our friends when trying to relax the kids when on the potty.  First time DS was on the potty I sang, he laughed and immediately released!

    GL!!
