Why can't I get over it...

It bothers me beyond extremes when DD refuses to eat. She has always been a very difficult baby to bottle feed and it is getting really old. Yes I am extremely lucky she is a great baby, happy, fun, etc. but I am tired of struggling with her to eat. DH looks at me like I have 4 heads when I am trying to feed her and that is on my last nerves too. Why does it makes me so crazy? Yes I have spaced out her feedings, yes I wait until she shows the signs, yes I have danced and locked us in a dark room, I have done it all and she still just hates to have bottles. No this is not all the time but it is enough to get annoying. I have called the pedi before and they don't give me any answers. I know I should just relax but it is hard. Thanks for listening to me, I am beginning to feel crazy!

Re: Why can't I get over it...

  • OH MY GOSH... Hadley is the same way normally but now that she has been sick, literally it's all but impossible to get her to eat. It makes me insane. Everyone keeps saying "she'll eat when she's hungry" but it makes me lose my mind crazy. She literally has had 4 ounces today, called the doctor and they said not to worry about it, just give sips of pedialite every hour with a syringe if I have to... oh my gosh, she's a baby! She needs more than sips! Oh... sorry got long winded.

  • Will she take a sippy cup?  I know it might be a pain to make a bottle and then put it in a sippy, but if it makes your day a bit easier/calmer it might be worth it.

Glad I am not alone! I feel the same way like I know what she is capable of drinking so I feel like she should be drinking close to that most of the time...not 13 oz in 24 hours!!

I wish...she will take a sippy cup with water but not formula. She is one smart cookie

It almost makes me tear up to know that someone else is dealing with this, isn't that pathetic? Hadley has been averaging about 10-12 ounces for the last week, and that's what I've practically forced on her (some of it while she was asleep). The doctor assured me today that it was okay, to let her eat/drink what she wanted and to use a syringe if I had to in order to get some pedialite in her. I swear she is losing weight so I'm definitely going to take her to the doctor if she hasn't perked back up by then. I just feel so defeated right now. Even when she isn't sick she doesn't drink good as the day goes on... drinks more than half of her formula by lunch time.

I know exactly how you feel. Avery isnt sick that I know of which makes this all the more frustrating. I just worry about her even when she is acting fine. See normally I can get more formula in her late day and evening and she always finishes her bottle before bed, but not tonight. Tonight she wouldn't even put the thing in her mouth but she ate 2 jars of baby food for dinner? She has only had 2 bottles all day (13 oz total) and hasnt eaten since 1:00 this afternoon.  It totally defeats you because it is my job to make sure she is taken care of and feeding her shouldn't be this hard!

I hope Hadley starts feeling better!

Thanks! Have you tried feeding her while she is asleep? I know that lots of moms did it when the babies were smaller, before going to bed themselves. I did it a couple of times since Hadley was sick, and it worked pretty well... until she threw up on me the last time... but that's just b/c she is sick. Maybe worth a shot. But for what its worth, our pedi totally didn't seem alarmed that she had cut back so much. Still drives me nuts.

  • I am not an expert because my kid puts just about everything into his mouth, mashes it, swallows it and continues for a very long time. And he jumps at my boob, bottle with formula, sippy cup with anything in it, etc. BUT when I was reading this I suddenly got a flash of me as a child being forced to eat beets. I hate beets. HATE BEETS.

Again, I'm not an expert! But could it be that your little ones are sick of formula and would rather eat more solid food? Sort of turning the formula into the addition to the solid foods? I think some children move to this point earlier?

    Just an idea -

  • So glad to hear Im not alone in this... Julian has always been a fussy eater... its a total struggle to get him BF for longer than 5min.THe only time he eats well is if he is half asleep. Things got better for a while when we put him on zantac, but now Im not sure if its making a difference.
