Might be joining you...we shall see

So I am currently 33w pregnant and am on strict bed rest at home.  On Tuesday, I went to my normal bi-weekly appointment and talked with my Midwife about the abdominal pressure that I had been feeling that day and the day before.  I was under the impression that it was the baby pressing up against my belly - but after she felt around on my belly as it was happening - she determined that I was actually having Braxton Hicks Contractions.  I told her that they were pretty frequent and she told me to go home -- get on the couch and drink a ton of water and start timing them.  She didn't seem too concerned.

I started timing the contractions at about 5:15pm and by 7:45 I realized that I was having 10-12 per hour (she wanted me to have no more than 6 per hour).  I called my DH to inform him of how frequent they were and he told me to go ahead and call my midwife to see what she wanted me to do.  She told me to come to the hospital to get checked - they wanted to make sure I wasn't dilating.  When I got to the hospital - my midwife met with me and hooked me up to a monitor and found that my contractions were about 4-6 minutes apart.  My midwife checked my cervix and found that I was also 1 cm dilated at that point.  They decided to go ahead and treat with a shot in the arm (starts with a T - can't remember the name).  The contractions slowed - but didn't stop and then within an hour they started to become more frequent.  They did a full admission and kept me in the hospital and started me on a magnesium drip through my IV.  The conractions eventually slowed way down and i was only having maybe 1-3 per hour -- but they said that my uterus was showing a lot of irritability.  After 3 days in the hospital and 2 steroid shots later, they sent me home and I am now on strict bed rest atleast until March 13th for my next appt.  I am hoping to keep baby in until week 35-36 -- but we shall see.

  • I'll keep you and baby Robert in my thoughts. I hope you keep him in for further than your goal! Enjoy all the trashy tv you can handle while on bedrest!
