What do you think of this book? I don't read it all the time, but I was reading through it the other night and it was suggesting that I need to start letting DS, who is 6 months, CIO. He is a very happy, content baby, so when he cries he really needs something. Reading the book started making me second guess my natural instincts.
I feel like this is not a good book for mothers who believe in AP. WDYT?
Re: What To Expect The First Year
Can you suggest the AP books that you have read and like?
I like it. It lets you know what to expect at each age development-wise. I found some of the advice to be helpful.
It doesnt bother me that it promotes CIO or other ap principles. I can easily go ahead and ignore that advice. I wouldnt use a book like that for advice on making parenting decisions.
Anything by Sears is more AP focused."The Baby Book" is a general one.
I never read any WTE stuff. I didn't really find most people liked it much.

Like PP said, Dr. Sears stuff is good. I liked The Baby Book, but used it more as a reference than something to read cover to cover. I'm also a big fan of his website, www.askdrsears.com
I'm in the middle of Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves right now and I love it. I wish I'd started it earlier, but most of it's not going to be applicable for your DS at his age. Same with the Positive Discipline books.
I highly recommend reading through Dr. Ferber's sleep book, even if you never do any sort of cry it out. He has a lot of great information about sleep cycles and associations that is super useful for any parenting style.
general parenting books, here:

you can look on the right hand side and click categories. all these books are "AP" style.

I like both Dr. Sears The Baby Book and The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding (yes, it is more than just about the boob). I do find Dr. Sears to be a bit condescending and also of the opinion that his way is the only right way. I read a lot and muddled the ideas along with my own instincts into my own parenting style. I highly recommend that approach.
I hated the WTE books for pregnancy, so I didn't bother with the baby books.
