Oh, I know what you mean, the ones that are about 3 feet square with the handle, not the big back yard ones. I found them to be all about the same, they seemed all right. They remind me of the Rebounders from the 80's that came with a workout tape.
I'm not a fan of the full size trampolines either, I'd rather go use the ones at the gymnastics center or the trampoline center, they're more fun anyway, I can bounce pretty high, and they have harnesses for the kids. I got an inflatable bouncy castle instead. It lasted 4 years, heavy use, so we're probably replacing it this summer.

No expert on trampolines, but you might want to check with your insurance agent before you commit.
When I sold home coverage, there were some policies that wouldn't cover injuries due to trampolines. They're freakin' dangerous!

I don't know about the small ones. I'd have the same fear of tipping over.
DH wanted to buy the kids one for Christmas but somehow I talked him out of it. They're dangerous and quite an eyesore.
