So two of the name choices I'm favoring are Anna Sophia and Amelia Anne. Thing is, I'd like that to be the first name since I have a family name for the middle name that I don't want to use as a first name.
Would it be better as Anna-Sophia / Amelia-Anne?
Should I mush them together like Annasophia or Amelianne? Would doing it that way change the pronunciation?
Or should I do the kid a favor and pick something else?
Re: Double barrelled names
I definitely want Anne/Anna in there since it's another family name (wrote about this in another post) but DH doesn't want either name by itself since he thinks it's too plain. He has agreed to using it in a combination but he's also vetoing the easy combinations (Marianne, Julianna, etc.) He and I like the above combinations but I'm worried they might be too long.
We already have another name picked as middle name, so using as a middle name wouldn't work. And this is probably our last baby
BFP#1: 11/20/11, EDD 7/25/12, Emily Iris arrived 7/29/12 at 7 lb., 3.5 oz.
BFP#2: 8/25/13, EDD 5/4/14, MMC confirmed on 9/23/13, D&C on 9/26/13
BFP#3: 2/3/14, EDD 10/15/14, fraternal TWINS confirmed 2/21/14, two BOYS confirmed on 4/15/14!
I think if you want a double first name, the hyphen is a good solution. The hyphen makes it obvious that it is all one name but maintains the pronunciation integrity of each part individually. I know an Anna-Marie and I've always loved her name.
Proud Mama to cleft cutie

Annasophia? Amelianne? No
You can call her by her FN & MN but there is no need to smoosh them. If DH can't get over Anna/Anne being boring then I think you need to find a different name. I think if you name her Amelia Anne & call her by her full name it'll be pretty. I vote for Amelia Anne.

Two first names is fine as are two middle names. Just please don't hyphenate or smoosh.
You can name her Anna Sophia familyname lastname and call her Anna or Anna Sophia. Plus, it gives her options when she is older. Be prepared though, even if you call her Anna Sophia, people will still call her just Anna.
I know an Anne Claire and even knowing she prefers her full name and hates just being called Anne, it is still hard for me not to call her just Anne sometimes. We are a nation of lazy people and like to say the shortest name possible, I think.
Seriously, no hyphens! How hard can it be to say "I go by Amelia Anne."?!

I'm hyphened, and I actually love it. Plenty of people just call me by my first name, but I still have a lot that call me by my full name. I don't have another middle name after it, so it's not annoying-ly long.
I love Amelia-Anne though.
Please don't mush them together. Those are very pretty names. Can you do two middle names? One Sophia or Anne, the other the family name? I konw a few people with two middle names for a reason like this.
