Babies: 9 - 12 Months

No longer STTN, what is going on?

DD is no longer STTN.  She has STTN since 8 weeks.  Now she is waking up at 2:30 AM after she went down for bed at 8:30 PM.

I bring her into bed with me and nurse her as I lay with her.  She only nurses from one side when a normal meal she eats from both so I am not sure why she is waking up.  I do not thinking she is starving.

The temperature in her room seems good.  We tried not swaddling her and she woke up after 10 minutes wanting to be swaddled.

I do not understand what is going on...

  • I can't get passed the SSTN since 8 weeks part. I'm very jealous. On a serious note, does she have teeth yet? Might be that?

  • Could be teething, could be a milestone, could be something else...so many things...

Consider yourself lucky...DS hasn't slept through the night yet and is just 1 week shy of 6 months.

  • My dd did exactly the same thing, she slept through the night at 8 wks, but starting at around 5 1/2 months she started waking up again. Now her STTN is off and on, and it tends to go in spurts. I am just assuming that it's a combination of teething and growth spurts.
  • well dd went from sleeping 6-7 hr stretches to waking up every single hour last week. she's now waking up every 4 hrs. it's an improvement but no where near would i would like it to be.

she's been teething like crazy lately.

  • No teeth yet.  Yes, I know I am extremely lucky to have her STTN since 8 weeks.

I am eating like crazy myself.  I wonder if my body is trying to keep up with her growing or something.

  • That could be part of it. Around 7 months my supply tanked with my first AF and went down hill from there. I started supplementing with formula and she started sleeping better. Might have something to do with it for sure.
  • DS was the same way but at 6 weeks he would do 6 hour?stretches. At 6 months be began teething and sleep became a nightmare. He started waking a few weeks before you could see the slightest signs of teething. Then a few months later it started again, luckily all 4 top teeth broke in within a week. ?

  • Sounds like maybe teething. My DD has been waking up more than normal (doesn't STTN EVER!) but I've attributed it to teething and have been giving her teething tablets.

  • We just went to pedi and she said around 6 mo they usu start waking up again bc their sleep patterns are changing.  She said this is the time that they need to learn how to soothe themselves to sleep.  She said I have to decide how I want to go about doing it...Ferber, etc.  She also just started teething so I think it's a combo of both things, unfortunately.
