Sitz bath

Has anyone tried them? Are they safe, do they work, and how do you prepare one?

Re: Sitz bath

  • I did! It helped me with immediate pain relief and I really think it helped me to heal faster from my 2nd degree tear. You can just prepare a warm bath in the tub but I actually bought a sitz bath from Walgreen for like $15. You just fill it with warm water and it fits right on the toilet so you can just sit right down in it. You don't have to worry about undressing and all that so it's quicker.

    I would definitely recommend it.

  • My hospital gave us one and sent us home with it, they said to use it at least three times a day.  I used it in the hospital and the first few days at home - it's much easier to find the time to use it compared to getting a big bath.  We were told just to use warm water.  It felt amazing.

  • I used one, and it was great.  I only got to use it every other day as I had a hard time tearing myself away from LO, but it was a life saver when I was still too sore to wipe properly.  It's a basin you fill with water and set on the toilet to sit in.  Mine came with a bag I filled with hot water to be able to keep the water warm.  It's not only safe but usually recommended for PP care.  I almost wish I had an excuse to use it more.  I'm tempted to test if it helps any with periods when I get mine again.

  • I think it is especially fantastic to use after I've had a bowel movement! TMI probably, but because of my episiotomy I have hard time getting clean after a BM but the bath does the trick :)

  • Loved the sitz bath!  The hospital sent me home with one and instructions to use it 3x's per day for 15 minutes at a time. Mine has a hose that you attach to the sink faucet so that you can keep the water the right temp and easily change the water if you need to (like if you need to pee during your soak).

  • use it or you will be sorry!!!
