I had an emergency (possibly unnecessary, not really sure) C-section with my first. I had planned a natural birth, but was told I had low fluid at 41 weeks, had to be induced, and ended up with a C-section for fetal distress after about 20 hours of labor. When Eli was born, he was perfectly healthy and didn't even have to be suctioned. His APGARs were 9 and 10. This was despite having meconium. I felt very misled and uninformed by my midwife even though she seemed very supportive of my birth plan and claimed a C-section rate of only 8%. Anyway, we are not yet TTC #2 it I definitely want a VBAC. My feeling is that a home birth would me the best chance for success, but is it too risky? What are your experiences with hospital VBAC, birthing center, or HBAC?
Re: HBAC?
I realized that almost the same question was posted a little lower down! Sorry!
I had a similar experience with my c/s--induction (for no reason other than being 41 weeks), 18 hours of labor, then an epi, then fetal distress with contractions and pressured into a c/s. The CNM had told me they had a 10-11% c/s rate, but I have since found out that hospital has a 48% c/s rate!
Anyway, I am planning a HBAC after doing extensive reading and finding a supportive and experienced home midwife (CPM). I started interviewing providers about 6 months before we TTC, so it's never too early to start asking questions
