Didymos Wrap...Worth the $$?

Are they worth the cash?  Do they hold up well?  Do they work well for babies and toddlers alike?  What else do I need to know?  I am a newbie to baby-wearing...

Re: Didymos Wrap...Worth the $$?

  • Didy's the king of the woven wrap manufacturers, they've been around for decades.  Wovens have the steepest learning curve of any carrier, but the benefits are great.  You always get a perfectly custom fit (vs. something like a buckle carrier) and they work for any age baby/toddler.

As long as you don't abuse it, any woven should last pretty much indefinitely.  Lots of us woven addicts have "legacy" wraps that we even plan on passing down to our children when they have kids of their own.

If that's not your style, they do have great resale value.  If you buy used (which I highly recommend, they're best once they're well broken in) then you can likely recoup almost all of your expense when you resell.

It can be overwhelming to pick one...  Woven wraps come in different sizes, and different lengths are able to do different carries.  Most people will buy their "base" size first - for someone of average weight a size 5 or 6 usually works well.  If you have a larger torso you'll probably want to go with a 7.

Didymos wraps also come in many different weaves and colourways.  I'd recommend going to the Wraps FSOT board on thebabywearer.com and picking one in your base size that you love the style of.

  • In a word, YES.

I absolutely love wrapping.  All of my wraps have been well worth the money that I have spent on them.  I have six, with one on the way...

  • Yes! And the great thing about buying a used wrap is that you can sell it months or years later for about the same price.

  • Wraps in general are great if you are up for the learning curve.  Didy specifically?  It depends.  For your first wrap, I would go with a cotton wrap in a pattern you love (and would want to wear), I don't think it matters whether it is Didymos, Neobulle, Vatanai or any of the other reputable brands.

My favorite wrap is Didy Steelblue Fish.  I love the way it wraps and the color and the my children love the fish.

Fortunate to be a SAHM to my 3 musketeers (5/2006, 5/2010 & 12/2011). Soy & dairy free for the 3rd and final time. Lilypie Kids Birthday tickers Lilypie Second Birthday tickers Lilypie First Birthday tickers imageimage
  • A woven wrap in general, YES! Didy in particular? I don't have wrap brand loyalty, so I can't speak to that.  I have a Neobulle, Girasol, Zara, and KoKaDi and sold a Natibaby. I have dried a steelblue Didy fische at a babywearing meeting and did quite like it. I would love to get a firefische or hoernum fische, but those are some of the priciest ones.
