Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

how warm to take LO to the park?

We have cabin fever big time! Its 50 degrees here today. Which in western NY is a heat wave this time of year. DS should be up from his nap shortly and I was thinking of going to the park for a half hour or so. Bundled up of course.

Too cold? Spring needs to come, stat!

We are in NY too and we go when it's 50. If it's colder we dont' stay as long. DD doesn't seem to mind the weather bc she loves the park

I'd definitely go outdoors at 50 degrees!
  • It's ok to take kids to the park at that temp with the right clothing on.
  • oh wow.

we play outside with LO just about every day, even in 20 or 30 degree weather. as long as she's dressed appropriately and doesn't get wet it's fine. We would all die from boredom and whining if she didn't go outside for at least part of the day.

We went down the slides the other day when they had snow on them! it was fun and LO had a blast.

  • Man, if we had to wait for 50degrees, we'd be inside for four months out of the year.  BORING!

As long as she's dressed appropriately, we go out.  Heck, we went for a hike on Sunday, arriving right as it started to hail (~37F).  She was fine, and had a good time.  We went to the part on our sunny day this week, when temps hit 45F, and the park was PACKED with kids.

For reference, we're in the Seattle area, so it's not like we brave ridiculously frigid winters. :)

  • Heck yeah for 50 degrees! If it's above 40 we're usually outside playing. Even below 40 I'll let DS do a lap or two around the buildings because he loves to be outside and it burns off some energy for him.

  • 50 is perfect weather as long as the sun is shinning.

    I would go.

I don't think 50 degrees is that bad at all, but then I live in northern Maine. lol  I will be bringing DD to the park as soon as the snow melts. Cabin fever BIG TIME! Even now if it makes it into the 30s we bundle up and go for a walk in the stroller.

  • We go in the 40s and MH sometimes wants to go in the 30s...if it is sunny & not a biting kind of cold I will go out for a few minutes at that temp. I figure if the daycares go out at 28 degrees (with wind chill) and above then mid-upper 30s is not too bad.
  • We go all the time in 30 and 40 degree weather, as long as it's not rainy.

  • My own rule is 50 and above for being outside at this age.
