Work related overnight w/out LO

I am nervous I have to travel overnight for work in 2 weeks and I am stressed out already.  Not so much about leaving LO, hubby will do fine with all 3 himself but I am still EPing how is this going to work?  Do I just carry my pump on the plane?  How do I bring back the milk?  I really wont be checking any bags its only for 1 night so technically a carry on is all I need but what about my pump?  Also I am going with 2 guys so I would love more then anything to be able to stuff my pump in to a carry on so they dont see it I am sure they wont even know what it is but....I am a sissy and seems emabrassing stupid I know but.

  • Your pump and its parts are small enough you should not need to pull it out for security so you should be able to stuff it in your bag.  However, I would recommend packing it in its own discrete bag and pulling it out to go through the x-ray separately that way you don't have to worry about the TSA asking you to pull it out.

You can bring your pumped milk back with you as well.  You don't have to have your baby with you it is still considered a medical essential liquid.  You will need to pull it out separately though.  You could also freeze it and ship it back.  I think another bumpie did that recently.

Good luck, it'll be easier than you think and over just as fast!

    Edited for spelling.

  • Not sure if you saw my post from the other day, but I went on my first overnight business trip Wed-Thurs this week and I was anxious about it as well. We drove/took a ferry so there was no flying involved, but I still had to worry about pumping and traveling with a male coworker. I had to pump on the ferry, which was awkward in the car - but luckily I was able to manage. I also had to request and pay extra for a mini-fridge for my hotel room.

It will all work out, good luck!

  • It's really not that bad- I keep my pump in a carry on and then going through security take it out and put it in the bucket with my computer. Last time I flew I heard the TSA agent the was screening ask the TSA person next to him if it was a breast pump, so they do tend to know what they are. Most hotels will give you a mini fridge free of charge if you say it's for a medical liquid (which BM is). On the flight back keep the pumped milk in a lunch cooler and let the screener know what it is, I've done this twice without issue. On the inside of security get a cup of ice from McDonald's or something and dump it into a ziplock for the flight. If its a long flight the fflight attendants can give you fresh ice mid-trip. I usually tell the person at the gate if I'll need to pump in flight so that they can either put me in a row by myself and I'll pump in seat with a nursing cover, or let the flight attendant know the situation so that they won't wonder wtf is going on if you have to pump in the restroom.
