July 2011 Moms

We have a new trick.

And I do not love it. Lena likes to sit in her chair and chew on her spoon after lunch, and the next thing I know, she is taking off her bib and playing with it! She then chewed on it, hit it with the spoon, and threw it on the ground.

Anyone else's babies get their bibs off yet? What the heck am I supposed to do about bibs now?

Re: We have a new trick.

  • We have moved to some home-made bibs using hand towels and only keep the snap or velcro ones in the diaper bag for using in a pinch if we are out and about. There are some pretty easy tutorials online for the hand towel bibs. Then best part is they go over the baby's head so until they figure out & gain the coordination to pull it up and over- the bib stays put!

  • Do you have bibs with snaps? Tristan has gotten his off a few times too. But he can't get off the ones with buttons(home made by a friend). I imagine snaps would be more difficult too.

  • Haha, DS started doing this a few weeks ago. I only worry about bibs if he is wearing a light colored outfit. I put a longer bib on him and attempt to tuck it in so he can't just rip it off....

  • Most of ours are velcro, cause they were easier when she was younger. UGH. I think I am going to have to try these towel ones, because I do not want to buy all new bibs with snaps. Also, I feel that my child is extra messy. I cannot go without a bib, because she gets whatever she is eating absolutely everywhere!
  • The towel bib idea sounds great! I'll have to look into that too!

  • Great, now I have to head on over to Pinterest to look up hand towel bibs and then I'll get sucked in to pinning for at least an hour Stick out tongue

DS hasn't figured out how to get his bib off yet but he HAS figured out that if he throws Cheerios on the floor the dog will eat them...

This is basically what I did only I used real dish towels (cheap, brightly colored ones from WalMart) instead of terry cloth fabric. Trace the CD about a 1/3 of the way down, cut, and sew on the ribbing. I used a zig-zag stitch and went around a couple times and made sure I caught the ribbing and towel. The first time through the wash they frizzed a bit at the neckline but I just trimmed them up with some scissors and they still work great!

  • I have got to get a sewing machine. There are so many projects like this that I want to do.

  • Yes dd pulls her velco bibs off.  While I was pregnant I looked for snap bibs but never really found any.

They have the towel like, over the head ones at Target. I think I might have to invest too because DD will tear it off if she notices it...it isn't all the time but enough to make me crazy!
