Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Sleep Training...HELP!

I know this board is for 6-9 months but I wanted advice from those who have already gone through this...

My son is 5 1/2 months old. He has never slept through the night but for a while was only waking 1 maybe 2 times to nurse. Lately (past month or so) he has been waking 3 or 4+ times each night and it is usually right at the 3 hour mark (time for him to eat). I try to calm him back to sleep in his crib but it usually only works 1 or 2 times, the other times I end up feeding him and he falls asleep eating...

How can I help him sleep through the night? Also, he is not falling asleep on his own yet. I have to rock him to sleep or he falls asleep eating. Please help. What worked for you?

Re: Sleep Training...HELP!

  • Are you willing to sleep train? If so, I did (and loved) The SleepEasy Solution. It changed our life ;-) and DD took very well to it. She was waking up 4-5x a night, and now she is back to doing just 1x a night for a feeding at 4am.

  • I used Ferber, it worked. Pick up the book first if you are interested. Seriously though, it is hard, so you need to be committed and usually see it as being the last resort. Have you tried doing drowsy but awake with soothing i.e) sh-sh/ pat, or head rub etc.? That would help your LO learn how to sleep on their own and maybe help get through some of those transitions.

  • My daughter is almost 6 months and we let her cry it out 2 weeks ago. She cried for a while and is now sleeping through the night. We also stopped rocking her to sleep and got rid of her swaddle at the same time. We read her a story and hold her for no longer than 5 minutes after story and then put her down. Sometimes she will fuss herself to sleep and sometimes she will just fall asleep. She now sleeps from 8pm-8 or 9am. Last night she woke up crying around 11:30 but we just patted her till she calmed down. Also she stopped waking up to eat at around 3 months old.

This exactly - except LO still wakes twice per night.
