Made up name?

So I really like the name Kerin for a girl, but I have gotten some strange reactions to it and I'm not sure if it's too similar to other "K" girl names like Kerry or Karen. When I look for it on baby name lists, it is almost never there! I don't want to give my baby a name that will constantly confuse people. Any advice?

I grew up with a Kerin. I don't know if it's made up or not since I have always known the name.

never heard of it. at first, I thought it said Karen.

and then I re-read it and thought "boy" not girl, strange, I know.

I pronounce it like Erin with a K. Another spelling is Keryn.

Hmmm....not seeing the difference. All the Aarons and Erins I've ever known were pronounced the same. I mean I can slow way down and really annunciate and it's still so similar to me I don't see the point of calling Kerin anything different than Karen. Maybe it's my southern twang!

Maybe it was someone's way of making Kieran try to be for a girl. Kieran is a boy's name and perhaps someone somewhere wanted it for a girl's name but wanted to try to spell it more girly.

The Aaron and Erin pronounciation difference is a very regional thing so it could be your southern twang!

I am not southern and I have no twang and I have still heard them pronounced the same.

Also, I agree Kerin looks made up.

I do know a Karin, but she says "kuh-RIN" and is Swedish.

Exactly this. I think Kerin looks made-up but it could be because I have never known a Kerin and can not differentiate it from Karen.

My sister's name is Kerin and it's NOT a made up name. I think it's beautiful although she has spent most of her life correcting people for calling her Karen. If we have another daughter she'll have Kerin as a MN.

I have known a Kerin and a Kerrin. Definitely not a made up name, just uncommon. It is similar to Karen though.

Definitely not made up, unless it was made up in the 60s or 70s. I've known a Kerrin, Kerin, 2 Kerens, and I'm a Karin. It definitely means having to explain the spelling, repeat the name, explain pronunciation, and/or having the name misspelled all the time. But it also means not having 6 kids with the same name and depending on your last name a very distinct identity (if someone Googles my name, they find me. Which can be good or bad). Follow your heart!

I immediately saw it and thought to say it like Karen (KEH-ruhn). I had a girl friend named Kieren... If that is what you are going for, don't use the spelling Kerin, it will forever be pronounced as Karen.
