Baby Names

Help with MN & sibset

We have used grandparents first names for both our children's MN. Aiden Robert is for my dad and Emily Diane after my MIL. If this baby is a girl it will be my mom's turn. Her name is Sherri Kay.

Our favorite girl name right now is Shannon. I think Shannon Sherri is just not good, so I'm thinking Shannon Kay. Is that any better? Or if both are bad should I just go with Shannon Sherri and say screw it :)

Also what do you think of the sibset: Aiden, Emily & Shannon

BTW my mom will be devastated if we don't use her name after using my dad's and my MIL's for the first two.

  • I think Shannon Kay sounds the best. I also have always loved Sheridan for a girl, and you could call her Sherri.

  • My MIL's name is Sharon Kay so Shannon Kay sounds really normal to me.  Good choice.
  • My son's name is Murphy Ronald.  I HATE the name Ronald but I am the one who chose it because it was my favorite uncle's name who passed away.  I never use his middle name but it feels special to me that it is there.

That said, I don't like how Shannon Sherri or Shannon Kay "sound" but I think they are really sweet and meaningful names that when you pair it with the last name probably don't sound the same and probably won't be used much anyway.  I definitely agree with using one.  I would probably pick Kay so there isn't the repetitive SH SH sounds.

  • I love Shannon Kay!  I also think the sibset of Aiden, Emily, and Shannon is nice.
  • Could you ask your mom? She might agree that Shannon Kay flows better & they'd have the same initials. Maybe she won't get hung up on using her first name?

  • Shannon Kay sounds good! The Sh sound in both names makes it seem like Shannon is used on purpose to be a different version of Sherri! I think Shannon Sherri is SHBAD :(

  • I prefer Shannon Kay over Shannon Sherri but I love the suggestion of using Sheridan as the first name, nn Sherri. Would your mom go for that?
Mom to an almost 4 y/o and an almost 2 y/o. In process of growing our family through adoption.
  • Thanks for all your input ladies!

I love Sheridan as well, but DH says no. My mom as been a real peach lately and the thought of using Sherri as a NN for our daughter is a big turn off for him :) He thinks honoring her with the MN is more than enough. LOL

I'm kind of hoping this baby (our last) is a boy to avoid this name drama :P

If we go with Shannon it will probably be Shannon Kay.
