3rd Trimester

For those who shave...I have a ?

So I usally get waxecd, but don't feel comfortable doing it when pregnant.  I have been trying to keep up with shaving, Problem is I find it so itchy once it starts growing back in.  I have read that some of you are shaving everything, doesn't that itch???? How do you keep from getting itchy?  I could really use some advice, things are starting to get out of hand down there! Thanks ladies

  • I get really itchy after shaving too.  So I just trim everything really short with a little cheap electric trimmer I bought.

  • If I put on a lot of lotion after shaving I have found the itching is much better.

  • I shave everything and use the Schick Intuition Razor. I make sure it's always super sharp and I do it in the shower. Doesn't bother me when it grows back at all.

This!  Even when I've used lotion and any other trick, as soon as it starts to grow back it gets REALLY annoying.

This for me too. I dont know if it's how I shave or the consistency of my hair or what, but I can't shave down there without getting wicked razor burn/itching and ingrown hairs once it grows back, no matter how careful I am or what I do to prevent it. I havent waxed in a long time, but have never reacted badly to it. Anyway, now I just keep things short and trimmed with an electric trimmer.

  • It depends on your skin. I used to try to keep moisturized down there, but I ended up with a ton of bumps and it was super itchy. I started putting some baby powder on my girly parts after shaving and it helps soooooo much!

I would do a trial run to see if you need moisture or if you need it to be dryer.

I bought an electric shaver to trim up and it ended up getting some of my skin and needless to say...there was blood and I will not be using it again!

I do this also. even bikini zone doesnt help sometimes. and at this point and how big my stomach is I dont trust myself with a razor on my lady parts when its hard to see hahahaha

  • As weird as this may sound (and I don't remeber where I got it from), I just swipe my deoderant stick over my bikini area and it helps A LOT.
  • Am I the only one who doesn't get itchy?  I never have.  Try using baby oil instead of shaving cream, the oil might give you the extra moisture you need (but don't do it in the shower, way too easy to slip!)

  • I find that if you really keep on top of it, like once every other day or so, and you always use a nice sharp razor, it doesn't itch. Also, I put a lot of lotion and some baby powder on it afterwards- just don't accidentally get the lotion or powder up inside.
  • As someone who has been "clean" down there for about 10 years - let me give you girls some advice.

1st - even though its not going to be perfectly smooth, if you shave in towards the opening of your v-jay.  Unfortunately to not get the bumps/irritation/in-grown hairs, this is about the only way to do it.  Will it be as smooth as a wax job?  Nope - but, you also won't be itching your crotch mad crazy looking like you are having issues.

Now - as for the itching while growing back...it happens.  Your hair will reach a length that gets too long and it does get itchy.  This is why I am still clean shaven ten years later.  After about a week to a week and a half, it just gets too itchy and I have to shave it.  Its a vicious cycle.

And for what its worth, I shave my V with just soap and water, and I don't put any lotion or powder on.  It works for me!

  • Thanks for all the suggestions/ideas ladies!  I am going to give some of them a try, and see what works best for me.  Hopefully I don't cut myself!

  • I find that I don't get bumps or itchy when I use a loofah to clear the area before shaving and after. I read it as a tip somewhere once because it clears off dead skin and exfoliates the zone. I don't scrub so it's not uncomfortable.

I also use a shaving cream that I picked up from an adult store (Coochy) which is like a conditioner for your hair. It seems to grow in softer and less coarse which is nice. Coochy is also safe for shaving your whole body, not zone specific.

I shave every other day so I never have that problem. You may want to try lotion.

  • I try to keep moisturized with a hypoallergenic lotion, and make sure to exfoliate the area well (not immediately after shaving, but in between shaves) to keep from getting ingrown hair and itchiness. Also, I let it grow out a bit before shaving again, otherwise it seems like it gets irritated more easily.

  • I have shaved it all for years. I do think things are definitely a lot more itchy when it starts growing in. Ugh!! I am also at the point where I'm having trouble seeing down there. Ugh times two!!

  • I definitely don't shave everyday, even before pregnancy. It gets very irritated if I do. I find if I wait 3 or so days before shaving again, it takes care of the problem. I've heard lotion can cause irritation after shaving, but I use it anyways and don't have a problem with it!

  • I seriously can't even see down there to shave right now and it makes me nervous because I really don't want to cut myself. I am going to have to figure out something soon though because I don't want my VIP section shown off to the world when it's not looking it's best.
