What's your favorite woven wrap?

I want to buy a woven wrap, but since they are pricey I really want to make a good purchase that will satisfy all of my wrapping needs!

I have worn DD in ring slings, a Moby, and an Ergo. I tried a woven recently and it was just the most comfortable thing in the world!

DD is 7 months old and weighs about 18lbs. She is a leaner - likes to lean back and look down when being worn. I live in Maryland - it gets pretty hot in the summer (90s) and pretty cold in the winter - but I'm most concerned about being hot wearing her in the summer.

Okay, tell me what to buy! ;)

Also, if you have suggestions for where I might buy used wraps, that's great!

Re: What's your favorite woven wrap?

  • It is hard to say because so much comes down to personal preference, and you won't really know what your preferences are until you try a wrap (or a few!).  The great thing about woven wraps is they hold their value really well, so you can get one, try it out, and if you don't like it you can resell it for the same as what you paid (usually).  Where in Maryland do you live?  There are babywearing meetings once a month at Soft and Cozy Baby in Hampden (Baltimore City) if you are interested, or if you live near me, I could meet up with you sometime so you can see a few wraps in person.  I'm studying for the bar right now so things are sort of hectic, but I might be able to find some time and otherwise I could meet up sometime in March.

My suggestion would be to check out the FSOT board on thebabywearer.com.  The boards on thebabywearer are fantastic and super helpful.  You can browse listings for sale and see what things look like.  The mamas on the Choosing and Using Wraps board are also super helpful.

Brands that are often recommended for new wrappers are Girasol (beautiful colors, many with contrasting rails which can help make it easier to learn new carries), Dolcino, and Vatanai.  Didymos are great, too, but they are a wide variety of thicknesses and weave types, so it is harder to generalize about them.

    Good luck!

  • I agree with everything the pp said.  I have a favorite short wrap and a favorite long wrap and a few in between.  The great thing is, if you buy something and you don't like it, they are really easy to sell on FSOT.  I started with buying a colorway I loved and went from there.  Have fun!

  • Do you live near Silver Spring? Beltway Babywearers meets there and you can try out lots of wraps.  https://beltwaybabywearers.blogspot.com/

Personally, I like 4.2 and 4.6m wraps and my favorite wrap is Neobulle (a French brand that is kind of an underdog, but they no longer sell  them new in the US).

Ok, wait a sec...you snuck on here and didn't tell me?  *snicker*  You beat me to the response, too...

OP, we are having a meeting on the 26th, if you'd like to come try some stuff...among us, we've got a pretty good selection.
