Trying to Get Pregnant

Drinking during 2 week wait

Just curious what the thoughts on drinking during your two week wait.  I've read conflicting things.  I'm having a girls night out this weekend and my husband said if I got your pregnant this week you probably shouldn't drink.  (my ovulation was within the last 2 days... I think)

  • Many women on here follow the "Drink 'til it's pink" rule. It's a personal choice. I've read on here multiples times that a baby doesn't share blood with the mother until 6 weeks.

If that is untrue, I'd hope someone will correct me.

this... I mean, implantation doesn't even usually occur for a few more days... so... I've had a glass or two during this time but I just feel funny doing anything more than that.

Thanks!  I normally only drink a glass of wine anyway so I wont worry too much about it.

  • I'm on the "drink 'til it's pink" boat. I actually talked to my doctor about this and she was on the same boat and told me she had a drink in her hand when she got her BFP. Her daughter is now 7 and healthy.

Edit: (She dumped her drink as soon as she got that line)

  • Yes, you drain your glass, look at the test, then give the bottle to your husband to finish. At least that's what I'm hoping for! But yeah, drink til it's pink, really. Especially since you're tracking, presumably? You'll probably know you're pregnant relatively early on if you pay attention to your cycle. Think about women who have unplanned pregnancies and drink til they're 10 weeks along before realizing their period is late. You and baby will be fine!

  • I really want to be in the "drink 'til it's pink" camp but I did some research and found that alchol can effect implantation.  I am sure that for most women, an occasional drink during the 2WW wouldn't prevent pregnancy (because obviously some women get pregnant doing more than just having a couple drinks), but if I had been TTC for a while, I would not drink during the 2WW (especially if I had progesterone issues because alcohol can decrease progesterone levels).  Hope this helps!

  • Have a drink if you feel comfortable doing so, as it is HIGHLY unlikely to have any sort of negative effect on your baby if you are pregnant. If you don't feel comfortable with it, though, then don't drink. Just because other people do drink during the 2WW doesn't mean you have to feel comfortable with it.

  • Thanks for my Thursday am laugh!

I'd been avoiding completely during 2ww, but really glad to hear that a glass of wine on a sat night won't hurt.  Will run to the packie tonight. :)

Screw that. Keg stands for everyone!

Seriously though, a couple drinks won't hurt anything.

I drank "in moderation" during the 2ww the whole time we were trying until the month I actually got KU'd. I was D-runk the Friday and Sunday before I found out I was pg on Monday. Oops.

  • My doctor said she is fine with me drinking during the 2WW, but I tried to at least limit myself to 2 glasses of a wine a day.  However, I read some research that said that alcohol could affect fertility, in both men and women.  Since it's taking us a few months to get pregnant, we decided that it couldn't hurt to seriously cut back the drinking.  While I don't completely abstain, I only have one or two drinks a week now.  But it still is a very personal choice, and there is nothing wrong with drinking during the 2WW.

  • Ive wondered that myself......ive been trying not to really drink lately anyways.  Im trying my best to get and keep my body as healthy as I possibly can.  But from what ive read it is a "moderation thing".  Like others have shared.  Ive allowed myself "a glass" of wine here and there.  I have a dinner party at my house tomorrow night and im going to allow myself a glass of wine. good luck! :-)
