Surprise U/S :) and measuring question

in 2nd Trimester

I went in for a my normal monthly check up. My doctor went over my a/s results from last month and said everything was perfect and that I wouldn't need another u/s unless I was measuring off. So, she went to listen to the heartbeat and couldn't find it! But LO was kicking away so my doctor assured me everything was okay. After trying for almost 5 minutes she said that I needed to get an u/s so they could get a reading on the heartbeat! So thanks to my stubborn daughter, I got a little peak at her today :) Everything is perfectly fine.

But I do have a question on getting your belly measured. I was sure today it would happen! I'm not sure if it's because she rushed me out to get the u/s or what... But when did everyone else start getting their belly measured? I'm 23 weeks.

    first off, congrats on being able to see her again!

    I am 30 weeks, and they still haven't measured my actual stomach yet... they have only been doing measurements on his bones.

    I have been wondering the same thing.  I am 22 weeks and still haven't gotten my belly measured.

    My office starts at 28wks. The only reason I remember is b/c it's the same week I do the glucose test and get to schedule c/s.

    I'm jealous. I'd love to have a surprise ultrasound! I didn't have my bump measured until I was 25 weeks. I would say that at your next appointment you will have it for sure!

    i got measured at 26 weeks, but i don't put a lot of stock in belly measurements because they can still be off.

    Glad everything was fine with your baby girl..she just wanted you to get to see her again =). I had my belly measured this past Monday at my Doc appt..I'm 23 weeks!

    Meh. I guess it just depends on the doctor then. My tummy also isn't very big but it still grows! I just think it's kind of fun to track the progress. I guess I can try and figure out how to measure it on my own? Ha

    My OB measured me for the first time at 16 weeks. BUT she said it wouldn't be accurate, she just wanted to get a starting point. I was only 13cm then. She skipped my 20 week appointment, and then did it at my appointment this week. I'm at 23cm, measuring right on track. I wouldn't put too much stock in it though, it becomes less accurate the further along you are. At 35 weeks a friend of mine measured 25cm and she had a happy and healthy 8lb boy. Her midwife said not to even think about the measurement.

    A substitute doctor that I had measured my bump at 16 weeks. I thought that it would just be normal from now on, but now I'm worried that she didn't really look at my chart to see how far along I was. My doctor had an emergency and I was already at her office so another doctor fit me in.

    The office where I work measures at about 20 weeks, but a lot of places wait until a little beyond 20. The trick is that at 20 weeks the fundus should be at or very close to the belly button so at/near 20 weeks you can tell if the uterus is about the right size just by feeling and comparing to the belly button. I think every doc does it a bit differently.

    I have been wondering the same thing. My doc informed me that I would be measured when my uterus is above my belly button. I feel lucky to get to see my little girl once every 3 weeks. She's been very stubborn and the parinatologist needs all the measurements and visuals. She can keep being stubborn so I can keep peeking!

    When I was pregnant with DD my OB never once measured my belly.  He said those measurements were so variable as to be almost meaningless.
