Double Stroller WWYD question

I am trying to decide whether or not to get a double stroller.  My son will be almost 3 by the time my next child is born.  Right now he doesn't really ride in the stroller often.  He usually walks beside me but he does occasionally try to run ahead.  I was leaning towards not getting a stroller but recently every mom I know who has 2+ kids has been telling me that I am crazy.  For any of you who have been there and done that, would you recommend getting a double stroller?

Re: Double Stroller WWYD question

  • I am in the same boat except DD will be almost 2 and 1/2 when our next child is born.  I was tempted today to buy a bob because it was on sale but stopped myself. With DD I wore her a lot the first year so the way I see it by the time I would really need to use a stroller with both kids DD will be over three assuming this LO  is a fan of being worn.  Also, she wants to get out of the stroller most of the time anyway so I don't know how much longer we will use a stroller.  We have multiple single strollers anyway so if DH and I are together that is an option. Based on everything I just said we think we should wait it out and see if we will use it.  If we need one between the internet and stores we can purchase one fairly quickly.

I also wore my DS a lot so that is a good point.  I guess I could always give my DS the option of walking or being in the stroller and then wear the baby if he wanted to ride.  I was also considering getting a glider board so he would have that option too.

  • My oldest was always a stroller kid.  She likes to walk to the neighborhood park, but if we go anywhere with any level of crowds, then she wants to be in the stroller.  She is still this way, and in fact she rode home in the stroller from the park this evening while my 2 y/o walked.  This has made me one of those parents that could not envision life without a double stroller, especially now that I have 3.  I do wear the baby a lot, so many times I get away with a single stroller and the ergo.  I just like having the option of the double for certain circumstances (i.e, day trips to the zoo).

  • We have a Sit N Stand that I got pre-owned just to have for trips to the zoo and other places where there is a lot of walking inolved.

  • I would get one.  If nothing else if your DS doesn't go in it a  lot, there will be extra room for your stuff :)

  • DS was 2.5 when DD was born. I bought the city mini double. It was used for the first 4 months and then DS started throwing a fit everytime we tried to put him in the stroller. Not only that but he figured out how to unbuckle it so we can't keep him in there even if we wanted to. We rarely use the double now. The only time we take it anywhere is on the rare occasion that we are going to be out all day at the zoo or somewhere where we think he might want to sit down at some point. We mostly just use a single for DD.

  • We bought a used sit n stand. However, I haven't used it yet and DS2 is 3.5 months and we are out and about often. I usually use a single for DS1 and wear DS2. I imagine we will use the double when DS2 is a little older.

  • Haven't quite been there and done that, but DD is 2 and DS is 1 and we used the double stroller a ton at first, but now there is never 2 passengers at once so it's kind of a waste. I would think with a 3 yr old and baby you don't really need one. Have you considered maybe a sit and stand?

  • my son stopped riding in the stroller at 3yo - but rode on a hitch hiker board on the back instead.

if i only had 2 kids i'd probably want one SBS stroller with big tires (all terrain) for long walks, etc - b/c you can't take 2 on a nice walk for exercise if the older one is running around...  BUT for shoping, etc- a rider board on back would be fine on a single.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • DS will be 2.5 when his brother is born. A co-worker is giving us her sit & stand and she only used it once or twice. We will use that, or DS will ride in the single stroller and I will wear the baby. DS hates the stroller anyway, so the sit & stand is a good option for us in case I need him to sit for a few minutes if we are out.

  • I am in the same boat-Ds will be almost 3 when LO#2 arrives. But he still rides in ours, infact, in the spring/summer walking and running is my primary source of exercise, so I INSIST that he be in there, as I use it more than once a day! I can't imagine NOT having one, so yes, I will be purchasing a double jogger. Besides, if you buy a decent quality/brand, you can sell it in a year if need be, and make some money back on it:)
  • We rarely used a stroller with my son at all at first, we wore him. Then when he got bigger we started using the stroller to walk the dog but still wore him when we were out. I've put our stroller in the car maybe twice in his life.

So, when we had number 2 we didn't even really consider a double. He also started refusing the stroller for walks about a month before she was born (we'd bring it along so I had a stroller, leash and his hand, yikes!). So at this point we aren't even using our single. I think when she gets a little bigger I'll start putting her in it and he can continue walking. My only concern is if he gets jealous of her being in there, so I'm considering an attachment for him. Or I might just make sure to bring the Ergo along and if he wants to ride I can wear her.

Also, I don't understand the argument of needing a stroller so you can chase the older one. I would much rather chase my older one with my baby strapped on. I don't even know what you would do if the little one was in the stroller, push it real fast while you chase? abandon the stroller to grab the older one? I'm totally confused by this argument.
