2nd Trimester

Anyone ever been told the incorrect sex of their baby?

First of all... We're having a boy!! It is the first boy on my side of the family seeing as I come from a family with 3 sisters and no grandkids yet, so that is VERY exciting!

Anywho, we found out at 19 weeks 2 days that we are having a boy. We had the u/s tech print a pic of the genitals with a note saying boy or girl and opened it with family later that night. The tech says she is 100% sure of what she saw, but I don't even know what I'm looking at when I see the pic!

So my question is, has anyone ever been told one sex, planned for it and everything, only to give birth to the opposite sex? When did you go for your anatomy scan and did the tech say he/she was positive? Thanks!!

  • I was told at 17wks with out first -boy- she was right.

with our second I was told at 14w 5d -boy- and again at 18wks..

I dont know about you, but I can see the boy parts clear as day! You should post a picture! Being that you are 19w2d Im sure she is right about him being a boy..

congrats- boys are soooo much fun

  • At 19 wks it should be pretty accurate I think! We went in at 16 wks and the tech said that even though it's early, if they see "boy parts" they can be pretty darn sure.  The absence of boy parts or even the three lines for a girl is a little less certain.  But since it was obviously a boy with boy parts visible, I think you should be ok.

  • with my first i had my u/s at 22 weeks and when the baby spread eagle for is there was no mistaking that it was 100% totally a boy! i think sometimes of course they can make mistakes, but there was no doubt with my first. we're team green this time.

  • My sister was told she was having a little girl and had quite the surprise with a little boy.

If they tell you it's a boy, they're probably right.

  • I was told at 18 weeks it was a boy.  I could not tell by the ultrasound picture.
  • Sex determination from an ultrasound can't be 100%. However, it's extremely rare for the technician to be wrong, provided the timing of the scan was appropriate (and not too early -- after 18 weeks is generally best), and the baby was well positioned with the "goods" clearly on display.

  • We're having a little girl. My ob did the ultrasound himself and said that he can be 98% sure that it's a girl, but that if he had seen boy parts it would have been 100% certain. I'm hoping he's right, otherwise we'll have a lot of pink onsies to return ;)

  • I was told at 16 weeks it was a boy. I saw no boy parts, she pointed out small dots that she said were testicles (I now know this isn't possible). We didn't buy anything, but we shared the good news with everyone and the name. Fast forward to 19 weeks and my a/s, I was told girl and it was fairly clear! My mom had a lot of clothes to return, but that's it. We got to spread the good news...again!

  • 28 years ago when my mom was pregnant with me, I was twin boys. They were (obviously) wrong. However, that was 28 years ago. I have heard of a few being incorrect, but its usually if they can't get a good look at LO's parts during the a/s and the mom doesn't have another u/s prior to delivery.

    Yeah...this.

But I have heard of a few people thinking they were supposed to have a girl & getting a boy...but never the other way around. GL!

  • A friend was told on 2 different u/s that she was having a girl. Went crazy on everything pink.

Ended up having a boy.........they had to exchange the carseat before they brought the baby home.

  • My BFF was initially told she was having a boy.  She saw a new OB after they moved and was told it was a girl.  And it was.
