I was supposed to go in for my anatomy scan March 21st, but because of vacation/work schedule, I had to change it to this Friday. I will only be 18 weeks (ALMOST 19) but I am worried it will be too early to tell if it's a boy or girl! Does it matter if you are closer to the 20 week mark? The nurse said it should be fine...but I am so worried we won't find out
Re: Does it matter?
I had mine at 18 weeks and 1 day. My LO was measuring two days behind and they told us she is a girl. They are done between 18-22 weeks because that is the ideal time to get measurements of the babies vital organs. Not to determine sex. If they can see it they will tell you...
Ultrasounds aren't 100% accurate in determining the babies sex only on delivery day or having an amnio done are 100%.
The longer you can wait the better... but at almost 19 weeks you *should* be able to get a clear shot, as long as LO is cooperating.
I went in just after 17 weeks and she was at 60% it was a boy (he was breech and facing the wrong direction, so we didn't get a good shot) at 18 weeks (still breech and rear facing) it went up to 80% boy... then at 19w4d ish they said they are 110% sure its a boy.
I think you should be just fine.
GL!!!
They schedule a/s between 18-22 weeks to make sure they get the organ and other measurements they need. Unfortunately, as a PP said, a/s don't always guarantee a sex guess. When I went in for mine, at 20 weeks, the tech told me that if they can't find out the sex during the a/s, then they won't be able to re-schedule the u/s. Finding out the sex is a perk of the a/s, and not their primary reason (which for us expectant mothers is crappy because if we're waiting to find out the sex and we don't ... it stinks.)
GL and I hope they find out for you!
