Preemies

35 weekers?

Have any of you had a 35w premie? What was ther health and NICU time like?

I had my boys at 33w and they did exactly two long weeks in the NICU. I'm having some pre term labor issues with this pregnancy also, so I'm curious.

Re: 35 weekers?

  • My DS arrived at 35w6d.  We had no NICU time, but 5 days in the Special Care Nursery.  We had to rule out respiratory distress, he was extremely jaundice, and he had to figure out how to eat.  I hear that these are typical issues for this gestation.  We had a short re-admission a week later due to a severe milk protein allergy.  Other than that, smooth sailing.  Good luck, mama!

  • All of mine have been 35 weekers. My oldest required no nursery time and was sent home with me. He did have some jaundice but we resolved it at home with light blanket.

My triplets were also 35 weekers one had no stay or issues. One days for feeding and few breathing issues. Other had 18 days for feeding and Brady's.

  • LO was born at 35w3d and spent 4 days in the NICU, but not for any prematurity issues. He had suspected meningitis, and a little jaundice.

He got 3 rounds of steroids for lung growth over the course of 9 weeks and came out screaming.

  • DD2 was born at 35weeks exactly.  I was terrified.  We ended up not needing any NICU time although we did have to deal with jaundice for a while.  She was breathing fine on her own and did great.  She did weigh more than the average 35 weeker so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with how well she did and the no NICU time thing.  She was 6lbs 9.7oz at 35 weeks.

  • My LO was born at 35w1d.  He was 6 lb 9 oz so he was a good size, but he had an 11 day NICU stay due to respiratory distress and 1 aepnic episode.  He did really well though.  No real problems with feeding or anything.  After the first couple of days his breathing issues cleared up.  The last 5 or 6 days were mostly just for observation to make sure he didn't have any more trouble with apnea (he didn't).  Good luck - I hope you can keep that baby cookin'!

  • I had our DS @ 35w0d and he weighed 4 lbs, 10.5 oz.  He had gotten steroids at 30 weeks gestation because at that time, they thought I was going to deliver.

His lungs were fine and only needed 1 day in NICU for low blood sugars, which is common in Type 1 diabetic moms like me.  He did have mild jaundice which went away within 2 weeks after birth. He didn't require any treatment for jaundice other than outpatient blood work. He also was slow to gain weight after we got home, so pedi had us add fortifier to expressed BM.  He quickly gained weight after using the fortifier for 2 weeks.  LO is doing great.  Good luck!!

  • I had my baby girl at 35 1/2 weeks, she had no breathing issues, however we were in the NICU for 3 weeks and 2 days becasue she was having issues with eating all of her meals and mainting gain weight once all of this was mastered she was able to come home.  She is now 8 1/2 months old 7 months old adjusted age and she is doing great.  Hope this helps.
