Schools in Redmond/Bellevue

Hello All,

My husband has been offered a job in Redmond.  We are still researching before we make a decision and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a Pre-K program in Redmond or Bellevue.

According to the company offering him the position, Redmond has great schools.  Any comments?  Any favorite elementary schools in that area?

We are from Atlanta so we have no clue where to look.

Thank you for any and all advice.

  • I found this helpful when we were searching for houses https://www.greatschools.org/

Not the best coverage on pre-k programs, but some. We'll be doing an immersion Spanish preschool...so I didn't look everywhere, but definitely do your research. It seems like most schools in the Bellevue/Redmond area are excellent, but there are still a few low-ranking ones sprinkled here and there. Personally, I liked the Redmond schools better (so we moved here!)

  • There are a lot of great ones. I used to teach in the Ready Start program at Rush El. The LWSD has Ready Start for mostly specials needs students and some typical, and Head Start as well, which is by income. I dont know of any private scools, sorry. LWSD is great tho, you really cant go wrong.

  • I also want to add that personally, I am not a fan a the Bellevue School District. I think they are too concerned about test scores, etc but I'm sure they arent all bad. Just my 2 cents.

  • From everyone I have talked to Redmond has great (private) schools. They are not known for their public schools that is why many Microsoft employees send their kids to private or live in a different/nearby area. There are areas in Bellevue that have great schools (but I am not sure exactly where those areas/boundaries are.) Hopefully someone with more details will chime in.

  • I used to teach in the Lake Washington School District (Alcott elementary).  The entire district as a whole is amazing.  Alcott has great staff.  The principal at Rose Hill Elm (Karin Janik) is fabulous.  I have never worked with such a professional principal who respects her staff and is in touch with her students.
  • I've only heard good things about Redmond schools.  Einstein and Horace Mann Elementaries [both on Education Hill] have great reputations.

  • My 4 YO is in pre K in Bellevue and we love it there. We go to the school we live closest to but all pre K program follow the same programs. His class has 13 kids and is full day 4 days a week with 1 half day, like the rest of the district. Let me know if you have more specific questions.
