Too common? This is the only name my fiance and I can agree on. He's also Jewish and both names are hebrew which is nice but my concern is that it may be too common of a name.
I have a friend that named her little boy this... and they call him Eli for short... he is the only one I know that has this name... (I'm not a fan of why they chose it, its b/c their last name is Moses... they thought it would be cool to have all the names from the bible, and they aren't religious what-so-ever)
I personally love the name... its adorable!

I love Elijah - I've heard it pronounced with a hard J (like in Jack) which I love just as a softer J (more of a zh/sh kind of J) - Hubby disagreed to Elijah - too biblical for him I think.
The reason why I was concerned with its popularity is because Elijah falls at number 18 for the most popular boy names according to the 2010 social security database.
Elijah was one of our choices (we chose something else for this baby) so I love it. I think popularity really comes down to location. I don't know any Elijah's and I haven't heard of many in my area. If you like it, I say go for it!

As for popularity - apparently Mason is a top name - I have not IRL met another Mason of any age.
My brothers name (Robert) was number 8 when he was born (1980). In my life I've probably only interacted (more than a phone call at work) with 12 Roberts.
Unless you know a lot of little Elijah's (again a name I've never come across IRL) I think you're safe to say you may never run in to another Elijah or you'll find them few and far between.
I like it. Have you thought of any other middle names that are maybe, less common?
The middle name has got to stay. It was my dad's name and he passed away not too long ago.
I understand. Well, I'd definitely go with Elijah Michael. It's a good, solid name choice and if it's the only one you two can agree on, I'd say don't stress yourself out about it anymore. I really like the name, personally.
To my boys: I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew
If our last name wasn't Wood, Elijah Michael is the name we would be using (Michael is DH's FN). We just don't want everyone thinking we named the baby after Elijah Wood (or that we are giant LOTR fans)
I love the name Elijah, it's our top name right now for a boy.
As for the common name thing - my name is Sarah and I know thousands of people with the same name. Currently there are three people in my immediate office with the same name. Doesn't bother me at all and it really doesn't cause that many problems. So even if Elijah does become super popular, I wouldn't be too worried.

I love it. It's very classic but not too common.
I guess it must be more common in your circle. I don't know anyone name Elijah.
