Recommend your convertible car seat...

Hi ladies,

I need to get a couple of convertible car seats for my little guy.  He's just about outgrown his Keyfit30 due to his length and his little shoulders look all cramped in there!

Do you have any recommendations?  I keep hearing that Britax makes the best convertible car seats but they have 3 different versions (marathon, boulevard, advocate).  Which one would you recommend?  My husband and I both have sedans (Cadillac CTS 4 and a Pontiac G8) so I don't know if some of these seats will be too big.  With the Keyfit30 i can't push the driver's seat back very much without it hitting the carseat.

Another question - will these convertible seats fit in the middle or do they have to be placed on either side in the back?  Is one side recommended more than the other?

Thank you!

  • We have an Evenflo Triumph that we love for DD1. Britax seats are good, but if you don't want to pay the high price for them Evenflo and Graco MyRide 65 are also good seats.

Whether or not it will fit in the middle in your car depends on the car and the seat. You'll have to try it to find out.

  • Evenflo symphony e3 is a great seat. It's also very easy to move from car to car if needed.

  • We love our Britax Marathon. We have cheaper seats for my husband's and grandparents' cars which are fine... but the straps always get twisted and it's annoying. That never happens with the Britax.

  • We use the Evenflo Triumph 65 for both DD and DS. We just moved DD to it from the Keyfit last week. We love them and are a great price too! :)

  • I bought the Britax Boulevard but we haven't installed it yet!

  • Go with a Recaro and you won't be disappointed. The ProRide is the best. The Euro is the same but doesn't have the adjustable head rest. Either seat will last you forever!

  • I got the Britax Boulevard; there are minimal differences between the Marathon and Boulevard, I think the Boulevard has different padding around the head.  I love it, well worth the money. Albee Baby has great sales on car seats, I would recommend looking at their site for good discounts.

We have this seat also and love it.  Great ratings and it's an "all-in-one", so you won't ever need another car seat. With coupons, we got it at BRU for about $150. From checking them out at the store, I was not impressed with the padding in the Britax seats - my son's comfort is #2 right after safety.

We have ours mounted (in a Nissan Maxima) behind the passenger seat - it almost seems to give more room than our Graco 35 infant seat did.

  • We have a Graco My ride and love it.  We also have a Evenflo trimph for DHs car.  The Graco is a bit bigger but looks more comfy...DS doesnt seem to mind either one.  I looked at the Britax seats, but thought they were too pricey.  The seats we have, have good ratings also.
