Pregnant after a Loss

How do you know if you have a hemorrhoid?

So this is probably a silly question, but how do you know if you have a hemorrhoid?

Probably way TMI, but my bottom bleeds every time I wipe. I'm not straining to go - I have the other problem... So it could just be that I'm wiping too much and that is why I'm bleeding.

  • Hemorrhoids don't have to bleed. In the shower, feel around the opening - you should be able to feel a little soft bump. Also, is there discomfort at other times - like a little pain/itchiness?

  • I had bleeding from going frequently at the beginning of my pregnancy, and it can just be irritation of the bowel lining. Hemorrhoids feel like bumps on the outside, and they can be really really painful.
  • I get hemorroids but they rarely bleed.  They are very uncomfortable and come out of your butt (like a little ball the size of a small grape).  They either go away on their own or sometimes I have to push them back in ( totally gross and I do it in the shower but is instant relief).

  • For me a hemorrhoid feels like razors blades if I take a hard poop.  I did have a bought of earlier bum bleeding in frist tri.  I was surprised because I had no pain associated with it.  The ladies here told me it was probably an anal fissure.

  • Well, you could have internal hemmorrhoids as well as external ones.  The external ones are the little blueberry things that hang out, internal ones you can't feel from the outside.  You can get them from both really loose BMs or constipation.  Stupid bodies.  You might also be wiping too much, you could try getting some of those Cottonnelle wet wipes for a while to see if that helps reduce the issue.

Hope your bum feels better, either way!  :)

There should be a difference between a little teeny bit of blood from wiping and what you will see from a hemorrhoid. I had them earlier on and let me tell you, it was enough blood that I was scared about which end it was coming from, sorry if that's too graphic!

This is what mine were like too. Mine were internal, not external.

  • I have one outside, it's not too big, but I can't push it back in.  It doesn't bleed though...it just is uncomfortable and itches!  Evidently they can come in all kinds though...GL, hopefully you don't actually have one, but if you do those tucks wipes with witch hazel have given me quite a bit of relief!

I have some pain when I sit (and I'm sitting most of the time in my job).

I'll have to check it out the next time I'm in the shower. I'll also ask my OB about maybe having internal ones?

Oooo - witch hazel - that was awesome for afterbirth. I'll have to try that too.

Thank you for all the info and ideas, ladies!
