Are your pets driving you nuts?

Ever since I've been home with DS, my dog is driving me nuts. I feel like he is up my butt all day long, always underfoot, and stinks to boot. We take walks everyday, he goes places in the car with us, and he is certainly getting more attention than when DH and I are both at work full time.

I love my dog, but he is driving me nuts! I know we're all getting used to our new family member - I hope he settles into a new routine soon that does not involve him sniffing my crotch 20x/day!

  • I can't tell you the number of times I've stepped on my dog because he has decided to park himself right under my feet when I'm sitting on the sofa, at the kitchen table, cooking at the stove, or just walking around the house. He even follows me into the bathroom.

I try to give him the same amount of attention he got before the baby, but it's really hard. I love my little fuzzy butt so much and it just about breaks my heart that he's feeling neglected.

My DH and I have taken to having him sleep in the bed with us, something I *swore* I'd never do.

  • Oh man, yes! He is always under my feet! It drives me crazy! He gets upset when DS cries and always tries to "help". He always feels the need to come over and get in my face when I am trying to soothe him. It is cute, though, when DH takes him out, he always comes back in and checks on "his baby". He is also much better at coming while we are outside. But, he doesn't like just staying and lying down when we are inside. I love my pup, but he needs to chill!

  • Yes and no. I was always used to my dogs being right up next to me (or even on me), but it's a bit more frustrating now since I am nursing DD every 2-3 hours so I have to get them to move so I can make room for my boppy. It's not the end of the world, but sometimes I just want some SPACE!

  • My dog was always by my side before but she has gotten worse. She is also all about the baby. Don't let him cry and her be around. If you don't comfort him fast enough then she gets all upset.

  • DH sent our one dog to our trainer's two days after baby came home so I've only had one dog to deal with for the past three weeks.  But even with only one dog around, it's been hard to manage her and the baby.  She gets all worried/anxious when the baby cries and she wants to be pet when I'm nursing.   So she'll sit on the couch next to me and paw at me to pet her, which is hard when my hands are busy holding baby.  And she always wants to either go outside or play when I'm stuck on the couch nursing.  I feel bad for her as I can tell she's bored and probably lonely without our other dog around.  She's also not getting the exercise she needs and since I had a C-section, I can't walk her as she pulls really hard on the leash for me so I think it would be too much for me right now.  DH has been working crazy hours so unfortunately, he hasn't been able to exercise her much either.  Our other dog comes home tomorrow and while I'm glad as I've missed her and can't wait to see how she'll interact with the baby again, I'm also dreading having two dogs to manage all day while I'm home alone.  I want to be able to give them the attention they're used to, but it's almost impossible right now as I feel like I'm stuck on the couch nursing most of the day.

  • Our dog is pouting.  He can't stand to be in the room with the baby.  When we came home from the hospital, DD was crying and Ddog began to howl trying to imitate her cry.  It was hysterial and luckily that was the only time he did it...

  • Yes and no for me as well. I'm used to them being Velcro dogs and glued to my side all the time but with the baby I am so worried about them stepping on him. My female especially gets very upset when the baby cries and always has to be laying right up against him. It gets annoying when I'm trying to nurse and she's on the pillow or doesn't give me enough room to get up and move as I need to. I cuddle with them a lot and they are still my babies it's just I wish they didn't have to be glued to me.

  • I was just talking to H about this today. I love my dog, but he is super needy right now. Not only is he competing with the baby for attention, but our other dog passed away a few weeks ago, so he is super lonely on top of the sharing with baby thing and my H has been travelling like crazy leaving me to be the only attention giver. He has always been a (gigantic) wanna be lap dog, but now he is really all up in my face all the time. I need some space.
