Chair in babies' room? Ideas please.

There's more room than we thought in the nursery, so we're considering putting a chair in there.  We didn't push it before because if I tandem feed, most chairs aren't wide enough (or -- we can't afford the wide, recliner-y chairs), so I won't be feeding in their room anyway.  But now that there's room I wonder if we should put a chair in there even if I can't breastfeed in it.

I don't really like the look of gliders, but they might be the cheapest option.  Any other thoughts??

  • I have never used my rocking chair to nurse but I love having it in there anyway.  I would always bring DD to my bed to nurse.  We use the rocking chair to rock her when she needs to calm down.  It is also part of her bedtime routine to rock and get a story before bed.  I don't know what I"d do without my rocking chair.

  • With two I would try to get some type of recliner-ish chair.  I'm really thinking about in the near future (like when they are 8 months or so) about if you have to snuggle them both.

I'm a twin - and my mom had a reclining/rocking type chair in our room till we were probably about 4.  This is where she would also read us books, etc.  I couldn't imagine trying to squeeze into a small glider or rocking chair with two kids!

  • We have a regular rocking chair in our nursery. It is the chair that my dad bought for my mom when they started having kids.  I think it looks nicer than a glider if you aren't using it for BFing anyway. I think it will come in handy for storytime when the kiddos get a little older.

  • This is just an option and it's not something I did but would love to eventually do once some of the bigger stuff is moved out of her rooom as she gets older. Anyway, check out some consignment shops for some older wing backed chairs. If you don't like the look of them you can buy fabric and re-do them but keep the look and shape of the chair. I saw one done over with bright pink fabric with monkeys and bananas on it. It was really cute.

  • We are getting a wicker rocking chair with a matching little stool. I am also thinking beyond BF and think that will be a nice place to read and do bedtime routine - so I like to put my feet up and DH likes to rock so we have covered both options!

  • I just found an awesome chair, super comfy, at a second hand furniture store.  I am using it for nighttime feedings.  I am gonig to attempt tomake a slipcover, but you can always buy one.  We ended up paying less than $200 when most of the other chairs we were looking at were closer to $500!

  • A wooden rocker would look so, so cute.

Okay, thanks, guys!  My aunt might have my grandmother's still -- if not, there are tons on CL that we could refinish, etc.

i just figure later on to read to the baby you guys can sit in the chair- of if you ever put a tv in the child's room this is where they can sit.... i think the chair is a nice idea

  • I don't like the look of the traditional glider, so we bought a gliding club chair.  It was $400, including scotchgarding, plus we got to pick a custom fabric out of a wiiiide selection.  I'm on the petite side, though, so it might be too small for tandem.  I think it's this one.  The fabric looks so different from what I have it's hard to be sure, lol.

Bonus, it's made in the USA!  They have other styles that might fit your needs and most of their items aren't *too* expensive.  Pays to shop around, as the price we paid was so much lower at one store that a salesman at a different store told us to go back to the first store!

  • Forgot to add that we have a larger rocker recliner from the same company in our living room that also was a great price and is super comfortable.

This! Also, IKEA has some really nice looking semi-recliner-type chairs that are really reasonably priced and useful (for any room) later on.

  • My badonkadonk butt needed something a bit wider than a glider and I just wanted something that didnt' have hard wood on it.  We were hoping to get an upholstered glider but it wasn't really in the budget, then Sunday my MIL offered to buy one.  We went to a regular furniture store and found this rocker/glider/recliner.  I LOVE it.  It is way squishier than it looks and I love that the arm rests are a bit lower so I can sit in it with a boppy and BF.  Plus it's pretty slimline and fits well in the nursery.  AND added bonus, if after the kids it's still in decent condition, we have a chair for the living room.  ;)

  • I have an old school wood rocking chair in her room. It's really cute and "classic" and I made it comfy by buying super thick cushions off amazon.
