CPW! When did you start buying things???

When did you start buying items for the nursery? Just curious.. DH wants to start sooner rather than later, and I'm more of the opinion that I'd prefer to wait until after I've reached 3rd trimester.. anyway.. post up

Right after our scan we went and bought the car seat and stroller. That has been our biggest purchase so far. We have to change rooms around and paint before I will buy the big stuff.

first pregnancy we found some amazing deals on furnature at a local boutiques Scratch and dent outlet. i was only about 8 weeks. we waited to bring any of it into the nursury untill 12 weeks. family also bought us a few things early then too.

This time everyone is holding off untill a little later.

Personally, I waited until well into 3rd tri with DS to set up the nursery furniture. There were a few reasons for this, but I wasn't in a hurry because I didn't want to have to dust all that extra stuff for months. I know we got our crib around the beginning of 3rd tri but we didn't set it up until 36-37 weeks. We didn't get the dresser until 38 weeks because we didn't like the one that was in the set with our crib and we had a hard time finding one we liked.

29.5 weeks today and still have not bought anything. I really need to get over my fear that buying something is going to jinx the pregnancy, or else baby is going to come and we aren't going to have ANYTHING!!

I bought the first two things this weekend...a boy and girl snow suit. Each were $45 marked down to $5.10 so I couldn't pass it up. If we don't end up needing it (which I hope and pray isn't the case!) then we can give them away. There were no gender neutral ones so we got one of each because the two were less cost than waiting until next fall season when we'd know if it is a boy or girl. I'm hoping I don't jinx anything...irrational, I know.

(P.S.: I know that these are not meant to be used in the car seat. However, my DH and I are active outside even in the winter so in the case we put the baby in a sling of front pack, he/she would need to be bundled up. I didn't want any one to think we were using them in the car seat!)

With my last pregnancy we had the whole nursery set up... his clothes were washed and put away, BUT I never bought Peyton anything. I never walked into a store and picked something out just because it was cute for him. I bought the "essential" stuff, but all the clothes and cute things he had were from his shower. It doesn't make me feel guilty per say, but it's weird to me... that's not normal... I was 33 weeks and never bought him so much as a coming home outfit. I think it goes back to that haunted feeling I had the whole pregnancy. Anyways... I was determined not to have that happen again, so I've already bought this little bean two outfits. I'm done for now, but it felt really good.

Can't imagine I will buy anything until late in the 3rd trimester. There was nothing worse then returning things, esp since I went shopping the week before we lost Nicholas. I might move the w/d and put the closet system in earlier then that b/c of the work involved.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with the "fear" of buying things too soon..

I know my MC was early on, but I still have that concern.. especially with being labelled high risk, having confirmed a bicornuate uterus, low Papp-A levels, etc.. yes, this could still mean we have a 100% normal pregnancy and a healthy baby boy, but there's the other part of me that, realistically, knows there is a chance that things could go wrong.. so, knowing that, I just want to wait until closer to V-day before making big purchases.. until we know that we're at a point that if somethign were to go wrong, and I did go into early PTL, ther was still hope.. I know, it sounds so awful.. but, I just can't help but see both sides, ya know..

Anyway.. we're going to start small.. I did buy LO 2 little neutral outfits before we knew the gender, and I'm fine with that.. it's just the big purchases that scare me.. so I told DH.. we can start by cleaning out the room.. getting it prepared, and emptied of it's current furniture.. that will probably take a good 2 or 3 weekends.. at that point, then we'll have had our level II (march 26th).. and will have our next u/s scheduled.. hopefully, pending cervix and all still looks great, I'll feel more comfortable to put in an order for the nursery set.. assuming that takes a month to come in, we'll be in 3rd trimester.. and then during that month of waiting, we'll focus on getting the nursery painted.. and once we hit 28 weeks, then I'll register for the shower and such.. it's all a slow process..

Blah.. we'll see.. who knows, maybe after my level II if everything still looks wonderful I'll be ready to go out and start spending then.. only time will tell Thanks for everyone's input!!!

I am a total cart-before-the-horse person. We found a bunch of great deals early on last time, including a crib and a stroller. We moved in to a new house in October and went ahead and painted the nursery. Personally, it helped me get through some of my cycles to be able to plan/set up the room. On my bad days, though, I kept the door shut.

At 15.5 weeks when we found out the sex I bought 2 bathing suits that were on sale. I held off on other things until the a/s.

We started buying things when I was about 13 weeks .. but only inexpensive things. I suffered two second trimester losses prior to this pregnancy so I am still a nervous wreck and on edge. Sort of scared to buy too much and then have another loss. =( I remember how heartbreaking it was to lose my other two babies and how I had the nursery already set up and prepared .. it was so hard to go back in and take things down and apart.
