I?m thinking about throwing a gender reveal party for the weekend after we find out what this little one will be. That doesn?t leave us with much time since we?d have the party March 24, but I?m up for the challenge. I?ve never been to a reveal party; I was wondering what would be appropriate to have for food. Do people typically offer a meal or do munchies/desserts. Do you ladies have any suggestions for food options? I'm also wondering depending on your responses what time of day/evening would be most appropriate!
Will also post on the August board!
Re: Gender Reveal Party
What did you have for food?
We just served appetizers/finger foods. We cut the cake on our due date, 6/19 (6:19). It was so much fun, we had a count down just like New Year's Eve!
Have fun!!!
Totally cute idea!

We just had a reveal party last weekend, and it was a big success.
We hosted the party at 2:30 in the afternoon (although, you can really do it whenever works best for your schedule/theme/guests/etc.)
Since we held our party on the same day as the Oscars, we threw an Oscars themed party (which we dubbed the "Anatomy Awards"). We served a bunch of finger foods and beverages. All of our foods had cute little nicknames based on the Oscar nominees (e.g. "Moneyball of Cheese" = a cheeseball and crackers; "George Clooney Macarooni Balls" = Fried Mac & Cheese Balls from Trader Joes; "Harry Potter and the Deathly Mallows" = homemade chocolate dipped marshmallows on a stick; "The 'Pink Lemon'Ides of March" = Pink Lemonade [we also had a blue beverage, and served them each in beverage dispensers on opposite sides of the table, for a fun pink vs. blue effect])
We let people snack on the various hors d'oeuvres and desserts (cupcakes and marshmallow pops), and then played a game where we passed a bowl full of old wives tales (that are supposed to "predict" the baby's sex) and let everyone read one out loud, then we figured out if each one indicated boy or girl, and marked it on a chart to see "what the old wives thought we were having". After playing the game, we did the reveal. I actually engineered a bunch of paper lanterns to have letters spelling out "girl" concealed inside, and then had a piece of paper with string covering the bottom of the lantern, so when the strings were pulled the letters dropped out, spelling "girl".
We also suggested that guests wear pink or blue depending on what their guess was, and to our surprise everyone dressed up in their choice! We got a lot of compliments on the party, and everyone seemed to have a really good time. (Although, we kept the guest list small, to just our closest family and friends -- because most people only have a casual interest in your baby's sex).
So, you can really do the reveal however you want (you don't need to do the cake thing, if you don't want to). Do some digging around on Google and Pinterest. There are a ton of super cute ideas out there for hosting your own party.

Heh heh... We actually kind of did this. Along with our other finger foods, we served mini tacos and mini hot dogs wrapped in a pastry shell. We didn't announce anything special about them, but just included them with the rest of the stuff to see if anyone would pick up on it.

We had ours at 5 PM on the Saturday following our ultrasound.
We had two chick-fil-a platter trays (which if you don't know what that is, it's a delicious/popular fast-food place with the most delish chicken ever), then pasta salad, chicken salad sandwiches, fruit trays, veggie trays, chips & dip trays, cookies, and a cake my grandma made. It was way more than enough food, but everyone was happy.
We didn't cut a cake, we opened a box w/ either a blue blanket or pink blanket. I'm not a big cake person, and I am ALL about soft, snuggly things.

We have a party set for Friday March 9. We are serving fajitas, guacamole, queso & mexican dumplings for an appetizer. We are doing cupcakes for the gender reveal and we are serving beer and wine.
We are catering the fajitas so it will be easy
I bought a few things to decorate with at Hobby Lobby.
I am also doing pink and blue balloons, pink roses & blue flowers if I can find them.
