Day 2 of CD and we have a rash

She was doing great with cd's and then tonight she started getting fussy and squeaky like something was wrong and lo and behold she has a bright red bum. We're using BG3's. Ugh. I don't know what could be causing this? I washed them twice and added an extra rinse when I prepped them. I gave her a bath, loaded on the desitin and now she's in a pamper. Any insight as to what could be causing this would be great.

  • How frequent are you changing her?  Are letting her bum dry out between changes?

  • Every couple hours and no, not really. She's been sleeping a lot today so she's gone a little longer between changes, so maybe it's that.
  • CD's don't pull the moisture away like sposies.  Sposies have chemical laden absorbant beads inside that do that.

If you don't want to let her be bare bottomed very long, try drying her bum with a blow dryer on cool between changes.

  • could it be your detergent?  what did you use to wash them?
  • Good idea, I'll try that. I've been meaning to let her have more naked time anyway. I used All Free and Clear 2x concentrated because Target didn't have planet or purex f&c.
  • This happened to us.  Switching detergents fixed the problem immediately.  In the meantime we used California Baby diaper cream and that helped a lot too.

  • It sounds like a detergent issue to me, too.  I think All F&C is fragrance/dye free, but still has enzymes.  The enzymes are what commonly cause rashes.  They are moisture-activated, and are designed to break down proteins.  Since skin is a protein, walla...owies.

  • BG3's use microfleece, right?  Some babies are very sensitive to microfleece.  While it is a "stay dry" fabric, it is not a natural fabric like cotton or bamboo or hemp.  Have you tried using a diaper liner?  Silk liners especially are said to have healing properties that will soothe a diaper rash.  Maybe try these:

    Good luck!
