How to clear up diaper rash???

Hello Ladies,

Well William Timothy Hudson was born on Feb.1st. He was 8 pounds 8 ounces and 20 inches. I am sooooo HAPPY he is finally here.

I have to admit I still have not gotten more than a 3 hour sleep a night. Trying of sleep in the day is not working either. He is up most of the day and night. My husband went and bought a swing and it worked at first and now he only sleeps for about an hour max. PHEW!!!! I am sooooo TIRED.

My question is he has gotten a diaper rash. I was using baby powder but that does not seem to help. So I looked up diaper rashes and they said I can use petroleum jelly. I just started using it. I was wondering if any one has any suggestions on what else I can possibly use.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!

  • We love Aquaphor in our house. It is a clear ointment and works wonders. It is great for burns, diaper rashes, itches, red noses, everything! I use it for when E has chapped face from the wind too. You can find it just about everywhere too in the baby section. E had a bad diaper rash from the stomach flu last month and we were using Desitin without any success. I put the Aquaphor on it and i could tell a huge difference just 6 hours later. I would buy it by the gallon if I could.

  • Oh I forgot to add that it is safe for babies if they ingest it. That is another reason why we love it.
  • Thank you...Eric will stop at Target on the way home from work and purchase it!

  • Sometimes it can be a yeasty rash and you'll need to use Lotramin or something similar.
  • We have tried just about every product out there. I like bag balm and put it on really thick, and aquaphor.

    Congrats on your little one.

  • congrats on your little one. when dd was tiny, her pedi recommended using baby wash on the wipes to help with and prevent diaper rash. seemed to work for us. we liked the foaming kind for them.

  • If you're nursing, use your breastmilk!   I used that for months before she needed an actual diaper cream.  Breastmilk is a wonder cure for a lot of newborn ailments.   You just point and shoot.  :)

  • A had sensitive skin. We also love Aquaphor, but it's pricey. Once the rash is gone, we use the petroleum jelly on her as a barrier. I put it on her every night, since that's when she's in her diaper the longest, and we haven't had a diaper rash since. :)

  • You can get Aquaphor at Costco (It's usually behind the pharmacy counter). It's cheaper there.
  • We love Triple Paste.  It clears up diaper rash so fast.
