exposure to whooping cough at school

one of DSs classmates tested positive for pertussis (whooping cough) yesterday.  after being sick for 2 months.  Indifferent

he had a slight cold a few weeks ago that lasted about a week.  just a runny/stuffy nose, no coughing really, no fever.

do I need to do anything? call his pedi? he has all his vaccines, but so did this little girl.

ugh.

  • I'd definitely call the pedi and ask if there's anything you need to do. Sorry! That's scary!

  • If your DS isn't currently sick or showing any symptoms, then I would just watch him very carefully.  But, if your pedi has a nurses line, you can always call them for peace of mind.

  • Man, that poor kid!

I don't know what you're technically supposed to do, but we were told that whooping cough was "going around" at the boys' preschool and I didn't call the pedi. They're up to date on their shots and I was hoping that would be enough...though I know it isn't always.

  • we had this happen last year, and my son came down with pertussis (he was 2 at the time and had also been fully vaxed). Apparently pertussis in toddlers and older kids, especially those that have been vaccinated, is typically very mild. The big concern is with babies, particularly those under 6 months that haven't been vaccinated. My son had a very mild case, in fact I probably wouldn't have even brought him to the pedi if I hadn't known that another kid in his class had it. I would just keep an eye on him, and if he develops any symptoms make sure you let his pedi know about the outbreak when you bring him in.
  • I would personally take a proactive stance to boost his immune system:

NO sugar. It depletes the immune system.

Vitamin D3 micellized drops, at least 5000 iUs a day. Or 15 minutes in sun sans sunscreen 15 minutes a day with shirt off btw 10-2. He can make 4000 iUs himself under those conditions.

    Vitamin C (not fruit/sugar)

Probiotics. Lots. Live strains that need refrigeration. They help remove pathogens and illness.

PRP spray to boost immune system

Increase juicing and rotate green leafy veggies for antioxidants

    Euchenasa

Bioplasma (combination of 12 cell salts - cleans the junk out cells and is a blood cleanser)

    Sugar free elderberry

No Tylenol products. It depletes sulphur and glutathione, both needed for phase 2 liver detox. If he's exposed to an illness his liver needs the ability to detox the pathogens properly. Tylenol stops that process dead with 2 minutes of consumption.

If symptoms appear, I'd start a natural antiviral ASAP, such as lactoferrin.

Wow, thanks for all that!  I'm going to start looking into starting some of it.

And I called the pedi- they said he should be fine, but if he gets sick we need to bring him in.

  • You're welcome! What I love about everything on this list is that it's easy, natural and great for the immune system any time, exposure to illness or not :)

Haha, yeah, probably. I spent a great deal of time money and tears trying to get the dtap out of teagan. It wasn't easy, it's one of the heavist most preservative filled vaccines there is. It was a challenge for sure and I learned a lot along the way on how to avoid the diseases.
