Is it normal for their to be an open house so the kids can see their classroom before the pressure of the first day?
Or did they get to see it at registration?
Or just on the first day of school?
I ask because our DCP is in one district and I live in another. In the district we don't live in, they have a big open house for all incoming 5yos and the kids get to look around. They have it in April.
My district has nothing. They said "oh, I guess you could bring your child to registration and have a look", like I was asking the weirdest question in the world. DD is already nervous about kindie and I'd really like her to see it beforehand.
So am I weird? Or is my school district lame?
Re: When did your DC first see their kindergarten room?
DS got to see the 3 different kindergarten classrooms at an orientation just for the kids in May, prior to school starting in September. They didn't know which classroom would be theirs yet, but at least they got the idea of what the classrooms looked like. They also got to take a bus ride. This was a separate orientation, apart from registration/info night that the parents attended in March.

They had a 30-minute "orientation" about a week before. DS checked out the room, met his teacher, listened to a story, colored a picture.
i wouldn't go much earlier than that.

She saw it on the first day of school. There is no orientation, etc, in this district. It's very, very large so that's all i can think of is that it would be a monumental task to get thousands of Kinder's to orientation. And parent involvement is very low at her school, so they might think parents won't attend anyway.
I was bummed, but DD did just fine. I was way more nervous about it than DD.
Christmas 2011
We have an open house day in August where they go meet their teacher, see their room and if they are car riders we can pick up their car riders number. So yes, they see their teacher before the first day of school.
There's registration in March or April, but that was only in the gym - just to bring the paperwork and make sure you weren't missing anything.
The whole school has a "Peek at Your Seat" about a week before school starts in August. It's kind of crazy, but that's the first time they see the classroom.
