Pregnant after a Loss

baby aspirin

Who else is taking it and does it really help?

I had some spotting last week at 6 weeks, went in today to have a good ultra sound showing heart beat and measuring exactly at 6w5d.  Doc recommend I start taking a baby aspirin every day.  A friend told me hers told her to start before she even got pregnant following her m/c.  I just wanted to see what the rest of PGAL knew.

Re: baby aspirin

  • Congrats on a good ultrasound!

I've been on it since before my BFP, I had RPL testing done in November and was told to go ahead and start taking it. It seems to be helping so far and I've been told to keep taking it until told otherwise.

  • I take baby asprin because of recurrent miscarriages and a risk for a clotting factor. While I don't have the factor diagnosed the asprin is under the condition that it doesn't hurt but may help.

  • I've taken it every day since I got the results back from my RPL testing.  Since my BFP, I've added Lovenox as well.

Does it help?  No idea.  Ask me again in about 8 months. :)

  • 1st pregnancy I didn't take it and had a miscarriage at 12+ wks.  2nd pregnancy, I took it and had a healthy baby girl.  3rd pregnancy, my doctor didn't advise me to take it and I didn't think about it.  I ended up having a miscarriage at 8 weeks.  This time, my new doctor advised taking it, and I'm almost 23 wks.  Now I'm no doctor and I'm sure some have taken it and still had trouble, but personally I now swear by it!

This. I didn't take it with my first 2 pgs that ended in m/c. I did take it with the third pg that resulted in DS.

  • I take it for a different reason than most, it's shown to help reduce the risk of preeclampsia, so I've been taking it since I got my BFP.  Does it work?  I hope so with my whole heart.

I didn't take aspirin for my first DD, but I was 5 years younger.

  • Thanks everyone for the comments.  I guess I should have looked into starting to take it after my first miscarriage but the doctor didn't even suggest it until today's appointment.  I was actually a bit shocked because he said I should continue to take it and it was the first time he had ever mentioned that I should be doing it in the first place.  Let's hope this helps all of us from having another miscarriage.  From what I read I should take the 81 mg dose every day until at least 36+ weeks.  Does that sound right?

Sounds right! I started with chewable Bayer and realized that I'm an adult and I can just swallow it. :)

Things I did different with this pregnancy:
    1. Waited TTC until after I had 3 normal menstrual cycles.
    2. Got a new OB - amazing man who listened!
    3. 200 mg progesterone until 12 weeks
    4. Daily lovenox injections
  • I did for my last pregnancy, and like your friend I was taking it before my BFP. I have bigger problems, and I'm now on Lovenox for this one. My doctor told me there are more and more studies showing that baby aspirin is very helpful for women with recurrent losses.

  • I started taking baby aspirin immedietly following my MTHFR & Factor V Leiden dx. I do not have to take lovenox, thank goodness, but I've been doing 8-10oz of pure purple grape juice daily which is a great antiocoagulant, in addition to the baby aspirin.

  • I was advised to take it as well but after 12 weeks he told me I could stop. I have taken it periodically throughout and might continue taking it more regularly based on what some other people have said. It sounds like it can really only help and not hurt so seems to be worth it to me. It helped me get through my first 12 weeks so I think it helps! :)
