  • Thanks for this! Good information!

  • The "writing down questions" for the appointments with the doc is one of the most important things I could do. I always forgot what I was going to ask (every time) if I did not write them down as they popped in my head. Oh, and the burn spray they gave me at the hospital was a life saver!
  • A couple things to add from a second time mom!

    1. set up a breastfeeding station. Keep extra nursing pads, your support pillow of choice (boppy, my breast friend, or just a normal pillow), the remote (!!!), lanonlin, and other breastfeeding helps there. In my ideal world it would also have a small refrigerator with bottled water and healthy snacks that can be eaten with one hand. The breastfeeding station is a good place to keep your pump, as it's best to pump right after breastfeeding anyway... you can have everything there and ready. Keep this area clean (prioritize it big time!) since you'll be spending a lot of time there and it's really nice to be able to relax and not worry about what is underfoot there.

    2. DON'T WASH THE NEWBORN STUFF!!! Unless you and your husband are very petite people and it's unlikely you'll have a larger baby, there is the chance that your baby will never fit into some of it. My son was 8lbs 12 oz and never fit some of the newborn clothes we had. If I hadn't taken tags off and washed everything I could have taken it back for store credit or sold it at resale for a better price. Take the tags off and wash your favorite outfit so you have something to bring the baby home in, but keep tags on the rest of it. Once the baby is born and you know those clothes will fit, have your hubby throw the rest in the wash while you're recuperating at the hospital. (Write down specific instructions about how to do this if you're worried he'll screw it up. Not every man knows how to do laundry unfortunately.)

3.) only buy 1 nursing bra before the baby is born, and try to buy it cheep. (Target has good options) You never know how your breasts are going to change since every woman is different. The best time to go shopping for nursing bras is 3 weeks AFTER your milk comes in - so 3 weeks to a month after giving birth. Quality nursing bras are expensive and it would stink to buy them and then discover that they didn't fit right once everything has settled.  Some women grow up to 3 cup sizes and I've heard of women who didn't grow at all when their milk came in.

My experience was the opposite. I only bought a few newborn things because all I heard was "they will outgrow them before they even really wear them". My DD came out just over 6lbs and the newborn clothes swallowed her. She didn't move up from newborn clothes until close to three months. This time I am stocking up on newborn clothes just in case because last time we were scrambling to run out and buy more just so she would have something to wear.

  • Your welcome!  I hope it helps!
