A little background: SS (12) has always lived with DH. When SS was 1 BM left for 3 years and then came back. She said she was 18 and didn't know how to be a mom. Since then she has been off and on. She will go months at a time without seeing him. 4.5 years ago she had another baby. BM moved out of her BF's house soon after the baby was born leaving the baby with BF. So she has two kids and doesn't have custody of either. I'm not sure how often she sees her daughter because in the last 2 years or so SS has seen his sister once at BM's. At the end of last year she moved into an apt with a new BF she met while living at a sober house. 

Fast foward to tonight: SS walks in from his first weeked visit in over a month and tells us BM is having a baby Indifferent I really thought he was joking at first

    SS's BM kept popping out children when she lost custody.  DH got custody of SS... POP, here comes little brother.  The state took little brother... POP, and a third.  

    It makes me sad that she can get pregnant to easily - when she obviously can't care for them - but people who would make fantastic parents struggle to have children.

    I agree.

    What craziness, WTH are people thinking sometimes?

    Same thing happened in our situation. When SS told me this last time his mom was pregnant I felt like I had been punched in the stomach. We started talking again with her so I was going to approach her about adoption but she kept going on and on about how this child was carefully planned even though she and her boyfriend are homeless, drug addicts and have no reason to plan a child. She told SS sometimes babies die or never come home because the state doesn't want them to live together so we believe she was either considering abortion or she knows she's been using drugs her pregnancy and it's possible the baby will not come home. Sad only for the kids.

    This is precisely why I ranted a month or two ago about stupid people who keep having babies. She fits into that category.

    Ex-MIL and FIL adopted a little boy many years ago who is 4 months older than A.  He was born addicted to cocaine and MIL brought him home from the hospital. His biomom had 4 other children, all of who were in the care of social services.  One she left in Utah because he was taken by DSS there and she was on her way to Colorado. By the time they finally terminated her parental rights, he was 4 and there were 2 younger siblings in the mix as well.

    Sometimes I think mandatory sterilization is in order.

    Thats so sad. But kudos to your ex inlaws, they did a great thing.

    DH took BM to court 3 years ago to take SS away from her.  We won and afterwards she gained a lot of weight.  I thought she might be pregnant.  DH turned to me and said to me, dead serious, "if she is pregnant, we are taking that one too".
