We went cold turkey on the swing four days ago. Ugh. I'm not going to sugar-coat this - it's been a rough transition. That said, DD is sleeping in her crib right now.
I rock/nurse her into naps and to sleep for the night. Once she fell asleep we laid her in her swing and she slept... typically for an hour or even two. Since putting the swing in storage, we have to wait nearly hour to put her down in the crib without waking. She has to be in a really deep sleep; otherwise, her eyes pop open and her arms spring out, and she's wide awake. So I'm logging many, many hours in that glider! Thank heavens it's comfy!
For those of you who have been through this, how long did it take for baby to accept the crib as the new norm?
Re: For those of you giving up the swing...
We stopped the swing cold turkey about 3 weeks ago and it has been hell on earth. Only the past few days she as finally caught on. I think because we have incorporated a routine into naptime that it has helped. She loves Baby Einstein videos so when I see her getting sleepy I will put her in the recliner with me let her watch about 5 min then start to rock her. She HATES being rocked and will fight me for so long, once she closes her eyes (still crying) I bring he to her crib, put her down and pat her bottom for about 5 min and she is out!
Good Luck!!
We did it cold turkey at almost 3m. But we swaddled her so I think that helped. It was probably a good week before it got better. The first couple days were horrible and I may have slept on the nursery floor....
This
I have never won the battle of the swing, he always outlasts me. I would totally do CIO but I can't have him keeping up the other 2 so I always have to give in once he really gets going and put him in the swing. I am really at a loss as to what to do. I feel so bad for the other 2 b/c they are such good sleepers (thank god) and W wakes them up with his crying and takes all of my attention. sigh.
We gave up the swing cold turkey at about 5 months, but we had to ferber and teach him to go down awake but drowsy, most times it works sometimes it doesnt but its not easy i do know that so i feel for you! At first his naps went from 2 hrs in the swing to 20 minutes in the crib, now hes back up to 1.5 hrs in the crib so it just takes time =(
We'll miss you sweet Debbie Girl (4.21.12) and sweet Cindy Girl (8.9.12)
